In this video, I give you a heap of tips on how to tell if your garden bed soil is good for another crop or if it needs replenishing by adding things like compost and manures.

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. G'day Everyone, burning the midnight candle here editing garden beds, and now it's time for me to hit the bed so I'll check out your comments in the morning and answer as many as possible. Thanks for your support! Cheers 🙂

  2. You amaze me. How did you get so knowledgeable about gardening? I have been binge watching your videos. You have a good sense of humor and so enjoyable to watch.

  3. Growing up on a dairy farm invigorated me by your usage and associated verbal poop trivia. To see the benefits of cow dung (chook too) in gardens properly composted as you outline is truly hearty for this grower in raised beds. Thanks. Look forward to see how strawberry spinach goes in other vid. Hope you used a good dropping of cow manure. The wet stuff not so good.

  4. Hey Mark u'r presentations are very informative, helpful & entertaining, often with lots of suspense (like burying dead animals!!).But please share – what is the composition of Mulch used here? it seems like mostly dried straw? Thnx.

  5. Thank you Mark for your video and happiness. I like the way you explain what you have done and experienced. I learn a lot from you. I now understand that I need to complete the soil I bought to get good and nutritious vegetables. Greetings from the south of Chile. See you

  6. Youtube needs a feature to allow me to like a video while it's in fullscreen – I've neglected to like several videos because I was in full-screen mode and watched in succession (and it kinda slipped my mind to pause some of them), but great content! You're one of my favorite channels – thanks for all the info you've shared with us!!
