With its tropical origins, it’s no surprise that Peperomia obtusifolia is popular. Often grown as a prized houseplant, the baby rubber plant loves its humidity, but can’t take cold temps. It’s surprisingly self-sufficient, and makes for a perfect green addition to your home.
Slender stems support fleshy, almost succulent-looking leaves. Whether it’s one of the multicolored varieties or all green, it’s quite a sight to behold. A perennial, it’s capable of living for years in the right environment. Inviting one of these beauties into your home is a joy!
So let’s talk about the “pepper face”, this sweet little gem amongst the varied peperomia species. We’ve collected all the tips you’ll need to grow your own. You’ll love the lush foliage it provides for you every year.

Very helpful video many thanks…my Peperomia inactive for more than two months how I can help her plz
Help!!! My Peperomias have that rat tail-like inflorescences. Although they are nice looking. If I cut them will nee leaves grow from it? Or should I just leave it alone? If they grow that rat like tail does that mean the peperomia is done growing??
Talk nerdy to me about plants
What is the spike sticking out of the peperomia?
Thank you for solving the mystery of missing variegation!!
Mine is not growing. Has only one leaf what can I do?
I would love to see the propogating video. My peperomia is spilling down and needs to be pruned! Some leaves at the base are turning yellow so I know I need to repot also. Can you how me how I prune and propagate an repot?
I would love to see how you propagate the pruned parts of the plant. I would also love to see you demonstrate “pinching” a plant. I’m fairly new to indoor plants – thanks 2020 – and have read it in lots of blogs and articles but I don’t really know what it means.
I have this plant for about 6 months and all the leaves look healthy however the light green stems you have coming out of the top of your plant all seem to fall off of my plant but otherwise it looks healthy. Can you tell me what these stems are?
mine doesn't evenr grow hardly
I Loved your propagating video. Very informative. You do a Great job of explaining. Good techniques!! Thank you!!
Great video
How would you fix holes in the leafs and browning edges?!
What if your window is south directed? How far from the window should you keep it?
I like this and would love to see how it is propagated. Thank you for the informative videos.
I lost it when you put water in the saucer. I thought that was a big no-no and a recipe for root rot???
What about leaves curly under? Mine is 1 foot from a north facing window, I'm in the southern hemisphere so it's strong indirect light. It has a well planter, where an inner pot sits inside a well and slowly soaks water in, that well water is replaced every week. The planter is porcelain. Top leaves are perfect, bottom leaves and new growth has it's leaves just on the edge curling under. To me this plant is getting enough light for sure and enough moisture around it without being wet. Top inch or so usually stay dry. Why is it doing this? No leaf drop or browning at all.
How do we know which grow light to use for a mix of indoor plants that could include a variety of succulents too? And how did you decide on that particular light for you plant shelf?
Thanks for explaining where it lives – no wonder it does well in the chunky bark mix combined with cactus mix.
Hey I have a south-facing window how far away do you recommend i keep it from the window.
My peperomia's new leaves are very small and disfigured and and cracked what is the reason .pl help
Hi sir, can i use coco peat, vermicast, and pumice as soil mix for that plant. ?
Great tips! Received one for my 28th birthday this yeay that was a baby from a plant my mom had received when i was born. Crazy to know they can last super long. I'll definitely check your video on how to propagate it once it's ready!
What i don't like is, I am unable to quit your vidio! never will I watch yours nor will I recommend your vidio to other firends
I know this is an old video, however what type of light is that you had that lit the room up like a thousand suns when you clicked it on. 🙂 Can you show it or do a special?
I had one of these many years ago. It was solid green, and I built a square trellis around the pot, and it kept growing upward. Before an unfortunate accident, it was around three feet tall.
Wowwwwwwww
An easy plant
