I believe in investing in BOTH the stock market and compost pile. 😉 One doesn't subtract from the other.
I fill my wheel barrow full of water ,add cardboard, wait until it is saturated and its tears to pieces, much easier when wet and doesn't blow around if it is windy.
Forget about investing in stock market, invest in homemade compost. Amen.
I thought you had to have a license to collect seaweed?
Besides the wool – you can also use lint from your Dryer – of course you’ll need to collect it over the year….

I'm new to gardening and last year started a compost bin (in the wrong way) it's a garden waste bin with no holes in the bottom. I have only composted green materials which has led to a bin full of wet black sludge… I'm now aware of how to set up an effective heap. My question is, can I add the "black sludge" into my new bin with lots of brown material in layers or just start from fresh? Thank you in advance
Can i use freshly sheared wool or it has to be washed or prepared in any other way?
I have a poodle whose hair grows really fast. When I clip him, I add handfuls of poodle hair to my compost. Probably works like the wool he uses.
My BFF has horses, so once a year I go to her house with an extra large trailer and get a few tons.
Also my family reads a daily news paper, as in print. I'll send them through the shredder. Shredded mixes much better than hand torn.
Hello Huw, my friend and I looooove your channel and all the detailed information and knowledge you share. We both use the no dig method and obviously have used a large quantity of cardboard as the base of our beds and in the compost. However, recently my friend stumbled across a disconcerting video looking into the production of cardboard, also the non-coated brown type. So far it seems to be the opinion out there that as long as you remove plastics, staples and any form of printing the cardboard is not toxic. However, the video elaborated on the fact, that recycled cardboard also contains crude oil because it was produced by shredding old cardboard most likely incl the printing and pressing it into new cardboard. Meaning, even if you omit all the above mentioned ‚toxic elements‘ you still add an element to the garden that potentially could be poisoning the soil and compost. What is your take on this topic? Should I cover my bin or leave it open?
I regularly add urine to my compost. Admittedly I live alone and keep a jar in the toilet to throw over the compost every day.

I wouldn't use a restaurant's veg scraps on compost for my food at home any more than I would eat their food. They use the cheapest veggies they can and you know they are GMO and covered in pesticides.

It's easy to get your hands on browns, but sourcing greens has been difficult for me; from October through April we're not producing any green waste outside of kitchen scraps, which aren't nearly enough to balance out the huge haul of leaves and wood chips we can get from local sources.
