So then, I can water it with my fish tank water. Lots of nitrogen is produced + it's a great fertilizer.

The leaves make a wonderful tea
Need to do a better research before doing this video. You are wasting too much of the lemongrass. The leaves can be used for tea. Obviously, you probably don't know that lemongrass has seeds as well. Otherwise, you would have discussed about it. It cannot be a complete guide to something, if you don't discuss about a certain aspect of a plant.
I am growing it from seed…hopefully use for natural insect repellent for my backyard chicken coop. I hear you plant them 1/4" down, and mist with water. Very loose soil. Usually germinate 5-21 days.
The Lemongrass Blades or "leaves" are excellent for making Tea and should not be wasted. Various cultures around the world have been using the Lemongrass Blades to make Tea for hundreds of years.
I am backing Aniket Bhoyar: The stalk might have more flavour than the leaves but the amount of flavour in the leaves cannot be neglected. Nice growing guide though. Very easy to "Grass"p

I live in california and there is a lot of sun. It is pretty much sunny all year round. I just recently started growing lemongrass and was wondering if new shoots look red? Or are those dry ones i need to cut or pick out?

Where I live here in the Bahamas we use the leaves as tea, don't throw away the leaves they are useful.

Wow, I didn't know you don't use leave. I have been using the leaves to make tea and not the stalk. I have mine in a pot on my balcony so I will now use the stalk. Thanks for enlightening me. I just recalled my grandmother used the leaves all the time when we were in South America where it was widely grown. We"d just go in the backyard and cut the leaves for tea.

I don't know why he thinks the leaves are not for cooking, that's just not so. The leaves can very much be used for cooking and/or for making tea.
