Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. i live in south carolina, near charleston. the sun is so hot that i’m scared to water until evening because i don’t want my plant to burn up but seeing you water in clear daylight has me confused

  2. All of your littles are WONDERFUL! You're a fantastic mom! But I can already see that Benjamin is going to be one heck of a husband and father one day!! It's obvious from the way he treats and talks to you! He's a sweetheart!!

  3. Oh my heart!!! I gotta go get my grandmas rocking chair from my brother whos holding it for me. I kept forgetting but its the heirloom i asked for. Its gonna go under my gazebo and then in my greenhouse.

  4. Oh what a wonderful space you guys have created. It is going to be so special for making memories. And family pictures when in full bloom . Great job as always, God bless.

  5. Jessica I just love you! I'm fairly new to gardening. I've done the garden tower and it was great until the slugs moved in and destroyed all my salad crops. Last summer I did vertical gardening and loved it. this year I started to plant seeds indoors with a grow light. Question: Can you show us how you sort your seeds, how you group your stored seeds, what you put them in, and of course how to get them. Last year I saved some black krim tomato seeds by drying them out on a paper towel and then storing them in an old medicine bottle. This year when I pulled them out for indoor starts they were covered in white stuff so I thought I had done something wrong and they had molded. I threw a bunch of those seeds out. Then I realized they were only in reminants of paper towels and planted the rest of what I had saved. I'm in PNW and I seeded them indoors in February. We've been having crazy weather including hail 3X this past week. My seeds sprouted amazingly. Now I have an over abundance. I'm putting about 4-5 in solo cups with holes in the bottom. Now that it is practically May and I have too many, I got brave and planted about a dozen outside on this fine warm day. I'm just wondering how you store your seeds so you can find them easily. I have over 100 kinds and it is not so easy to find what I'm looking for in my own crazy seed vault. Thanks.

  6. @Jess, you Can adjust the flow of the water on the pump. Perhaps it’s sat to high, therefore with to much water getting thought.. that wil help with the "right "sound and overflow " from the fountain

  7. The stone path looked gorgeous but then you added the fountain and it pulled the pieces together even more, I can't wait to see the ground cover grow and make it look even more magnificent! Thank you for sharing and constantly giving me idea and inspiration for my future homestead.
