HOW to Grow Leaf Lettuce (It’s Simple)
Growing leaf lettuce is simple and easy. You need 3 things.
1. Lettuce seeds. Most seed companies offer loose-leaf lettuce seeds. I recommend burpee.com.
2. Fertilizer. I plead that you avoid chemical fertilizers and go with rotted manure or compost.
3. Soil. The ideal soil would have lots of organic matter and drain well, but most gardeners don’t have that luxury.
Lettuce likes cooler weather, so the spring and fall is best for most climates. However, if you keep your lettuce well shaded and give it plenty of water, it should do okay in the summer.
Plant in rows four inches apart, and one plant wide. In each row, it is good if the plants practically sit on top of each other. This maximizes your space and helps to choke out weeds in the row itself. Check out the video below for more info on how to grow leaf lettuce.
