  1. U inspire me to plant tater in cardboard boxes .. the plants look heathly I also planted in pots .. they r alll gourmet taters .. I can hardly wait… I have at least a month to go

  2. Mark,

That’s fantastic! I will try this next year.

Off topic but I had asked you about how to grow after winter rye cover crop over winter. You said cut the rye grass at soil level before planting. What if I want to direct sow instead of transplant?

  3. Most of the spuds we grow are in a partnership with some cool folks, and then there are some in the garden. There are a few volunteers, some in compost, and some in some quad tires as an experiment. I'm switching to boxes next year. Gotta love it man. I'm that way about the zuccs, butternuts, and pumpkins that were off to a brutal start, but the toughest are exploding right now. Fair bit of rain and warm temps starting with the best spring in several years.

  4. Mark, I got 50 lbs of grade B red potatoes last fall. Ate some, canned some, dehydrated some. Took the last 8 lbs or so and put them in cold storage. Around March 1st I remembered them. Well! Was I shocked. Some of them had eight inch sprouts! We planted them in gallon containers with good soil/compost. Kept them inside until May.

Put them out a little too early so lost seven to frost. When we planted them they already had potatoes the size of golfballs on them. None the less we got a lot of very large potatoes. Vines had withered so we harvested them early. They are so delicious! They are easy to canso I'm going to can a lot of them.

Yours look exactly like ours. I am thinking perhaps the grade Bs are not sprayed with sprout inhibitor as they are not sold in stores as the Grade A.

    Congrats to you!

  5. Hi Mark, great reveal on your spuds! Fun idea to try as well. We all have a free box it seems..may try this next spring, and compare the results with my grow bag technique. Blessings.

  6. I am excited to see your potato harvest > I planted 3 lbs. of Red Potatoes using this method > it's been tough keeping Any thing alive this summer, but they've yet to bloom OR die back > hoping I'll be blessed with healthy spuds, too! CONGRATS!
