VLOG 62. The city of Eustis, Florida is giving away land titles to people who maintain the land for 2 years. As someone who generally doesn’t like government programs, the reason I like this is because it is reducing the ownership of government land, back to people who have skin in the game.

Hi Curtis
They say nothing is for free.
wow very good info
for non profit organizations we get charged $2 / yr for vacant lots
We have a lot of vacant land and tear down house in My city I hope I can get something like this going here
Milwaukee Wisconsin was thinking about this a few years ago. Don't know if they went through with it.
I like how ideas like this combined with some others could potential give low income or even homeless people an opportunity to make a difference in their lives! To bad everyone wants to live in Kelowna so the odds that happens here are slim and none where (if I'm not mistaken), Florida has the highest foreclosure rates in that country!
BTW: I just bought your book and look forward to reading it. I too live in Kelowna and ambitiously pursuing something similar to what your doing but just a few years behind you. I'd like to meet up with you and pick your brain, maybe even figure out a means to multiply what your doing a couple hundred times…
What an awesome program
unknown issues are any overdue property taxes on those lots but still an amazing offer. I wonder if you have to pay property taxes during the two years, sound like you do
Thank you for sharing this Curtis!!
The one day you say you are against government subsidies the next day you promote the subsidy, or isn't it? Gov, wants development and moving in to a nowhere town. Subtropical rainforest that cleans water for the everglades river getting leveled and looking like an urban lawn yard. The same ecological marvel that has been destroyed by half a century of gov subsidized sugar plantations and zillions of tons of industrial pesticides and fertilizers.
Yes, it doesn't mean your readers will continue the destruction, but do you know the terms under which they define "care".
St. Louis City is doing this as well. So are parts of Chicago.
a UK law which most UK residents don't know was passed a few year ago states that in any city in the UK, if 6 or more people get together and ask the local authority for a piece of land to grow food on. They have to by law give you a piece. It could be an unkept bit of forgotten waste land they give you but that can be sorted with a bit of hard work. Not sure if anyone has turned a piece into a business market garden or farm but nothing stopping you. One success is bramble farm in Bristol. It was literally a field full of blackberry bushes that they had to hack through with loppers then dig out the roots but a big success, there have been many others but still people aren't aware of it.
hey they are doing that in st. louis too
It will be underwater in a few years. They aren't giving away anything of real value, at least for the long term.
Don't want to throw cold water on this idea, but, this is how the county wrangles people into owning land so they can PAY property taxes once they take title to the land. If you're ok with that, then fine.
that moment when you think you cant get land and this video pops up and shares a company that is in the city you live in… irony
I am from Florida and I didnt know about this. That is really cool. My city is a smaller city and they dont have much in thw "city owned vacant lots" typically some realty company buys them up
