  1. Great advice! Starting in seed trays early and successive planting has quadrupled my yearly harvest here in Maine Zone 5. The other advice I would give is start 10% or more of your crops early outside for a bumper crop. When everyone says it's too early to plant… I still do and add milk jugs or kitty litter jugs for frost protection. I also would love for you to do an episode Luke on some of the tried and true Amish varieties like Amish Paste and Todd County Amish. Also I can't wait to but some Olpalka seeds from you this year. Thanks again for another meaningful video!!

  2. I'm in a row home. My next door neighbor has a large (thankfully deciduous) tree that blocks nearly all my sunlight in late spring and all summer, until the leaves drop in mid fall. I'm in zone 7B. Fall is my golden opportunity for maximum light access. I can't always work the soil in early spring and before I know it, leaves have grown back on my neighbor's tree and the nearby wooded area and I'm destined again to have an underwhelming spring/summer garden. I really need to capitalize on the fall gardening window.

  3. Days to maturity the same? There is less sunlight, less heat in September, October. Plants seem to grow faster in May and June than the fall to me. Weather is variable, and you can run out of time, October can be cold and wet, so you have to plan.
Also, I don't understand why you ever want to succession plant peppers since your pepper plants should be huge covered with fruit by September and the cooler nights are perfect for getting sweet ripe peppers on the huge plants. Some veggie plants, if you grow them well and hopefully avoid pests and diseases, you can harvest well through October… you don't need to succession plant them.
Another problem you do not mention is that some seeds/plants do not do well in late summer heat and summer pests, so this is a challenge to get them started for the fall garden.

  4. It would be awesome if this company made a 4 ft long paddle, or a way to connect them to make a 4 ft paddle for raised beds. Bam. One row done with the flip of a paddle

  5. I've ALWAYS done it this way. if it's done before the frost/snow… it's good! last year was warm up until mid November, I had pumpkins and others growing until the snow fell! then brought the ones in pots inside. Works great, hes absolutely right

  6. I live in Mich. Beautiful state but I think we only got 6 months of growing season bummer! But I love my state anyhow. I think I can do radishes and spunish heard they can handle real cold weather. We will see!

  7. Can you talk about temps. The first official frost date for puyallup WA gives 4 different temps…like first 36 degrees, first 32 degrees, first 28 degrees, and first 16 degrees listed under frost…but those are freezing temps of course at 32. Do I just get concerned at looking at 36 degrees??

  8. Luke, I definitely agree, and that has been my experience, especially in the last 3 years or so where the growing seasons have been getting longer, due to climate change, which is affecting us in a huge way here in VA

  9. Very good video and your toil is very useful ..i love it ….thank you for the tips for the garden i really love it…!!! i am in my way to do my fall garden .. i am in zone 9b .

  10. Repeat after me??? took you off notify in a heart beat dude… plus when I Ordered seeds… you didn't even deliver them until i said something about my purchase…

  11. Sorry but I don't know about that thing. Not interested. How hard is it to just eyeball seed spacing? Do people seriously not know how far an inch is? Some people will buy anything someone tells them is wonderful though.

  12. It would be really helpful to know when the average garden is ready for fall plants. On average, most people plant tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and squash around late May. When do the plants generally stop producing or when/why should they be removed. If that is mid-august, then what popular vegetables can we plant before early October.

Instead of listening for ten minutes on how we just need to read the seed packet and how anything can be planted.

  13. Sow perfect seeder is amazing! Carrot seeds are itty bitty! Super amazing product! I feel like this perfect seeder should be in stores! It feels like it’s a secret..

  14. I believe we are in the same zone but my frost date is October 18th. I thonk I would like the tool for planting because almost dark when I get off work and I can't see the little bitty seeds fall to the ground.
