This right NOW. It was 104 and super hot and sunny. Now we have a huge storm on top of us.
Great Video! Appreciate the start of acknowledging the power and beauty of the rain! Question: what are those lovely long, reddish beans behind you at the end of the video? Liked how they accented the landscape! TTyl
The fall planning already sneaks up on me, my goodness!!! Thank you for the reminder. We could use some of that rain sent our way, hopefully soon 🙂
My summer garden didn’t do very good this year. My tomatoes hardly produced and are still green. I have hope for my fall garden!
I'm gonna try the peas.
Just got my heat-tolerant broccoli variety today so I can plant them in July in VA! Arugula is past its prime, so it will go in the cleared out spot. And thank you for the encouragement! As a new gardener, it sounds like summer was a difficult season to start. We started a raised bed end of May.
Jess, I live in Butler Pa about 30 minutes from Pittsburgh, Pa. Thank you for the tip on looking up my first frost date and finding a website that counts how many days until the first frost. My first frost date is October 5th, today it is 75 days until first frost. What can I plant? Will you be doing a video on fall planting? Also, can you do a video on vegetables you can cover? I bought rolls of winter blankets from Ace Hardware. What plants can I grow and cover up for the winter? I have 3 4 x 4 gardens beds.
I am in 7b like Jess but I'm in the desert sw. What is even crazier even though I am also in 7b my first frost date is 2 WEEKS earlier than Jess in Arkansas! So that frost date is so important to know.
Where do you buy your seeds?
Oh this video was so enjoyable and educational. Great tips I’m going to keep in mind as I am planning my very first fall garden. Thank you and happy gardening 🙂
Tomatoe Sandwiches!
Your videos always make me happy .. I learn a lot too, but I am smiling when I do it, and that makes it better.
Hey Jess,
I just want to let you know how much I enjoy your garden and you and your adorable family. I really love your new kitchen and especially the green cabinets and black hardware. Could you tell me what the brand and exact color of green that is? Sure would appreciate the info.
Thanks so much
Sharon
Love your channel. I have tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, beens, green peppers, and egg plants in my summer garden. Can I put a green house over them and grow them all year? or should I rip them all out and start a fall garden?
If you’re doing the gutter trick, for carrots, can you start to grow them indoors if it’s too hot until it’s cooler out? And other brassicas.
Do peas or beans grow in fall?
I don't have an indoor space to start seeds, so I'm attempting to grow under a shade cloth, so far it's working well, I've had radishes, carrots, lettuces, and broccoli all sprout just fine in upper 90's heat, now I just need to keep them from bolting. My thought has been that it is generally 20 degrees cooler in the shade, so a shade cloth should bring the temp down to below 80, making it ideal sprouting temps. Lots of prayers that it'll work!
I consider 4 seasons; spring, summer 1, Summer 2, fall/ winter
Currently eating a tomato and egg sandwich while watching this! haha I am so glad you shared your tomato sandwich snack! It's become a favorite here at our home
I love your videos! Can you tell me the model of you Weston tomato mill? Thanks!
Thanks for this video. Great encouragement for me and the fall gardening. I'm in SE Oklahoma and love gardening.
My town is calling for our first frost Sept 28th so a little over 30 days, now that's depressing. Jess's grow season is so much longer than Michigan's
How often do you water your crops in fall?
E
I’ve been going back and watching these at a time that makes sense for our growing season to try to see what I need to do next. This will be my first year attempting a Fall garden and I’m excited! Thanks for putting out such a wealth of knowledge and encouragement.
