Great video Mark, I am trying a green manure crop in my oldest garden beds for the first time this year. Awesome Idea to use leafy weeds.
Shit crapped my pants, you gotta warn me before jumping out like that mate
perfect timing for my SSC question. This was soo on point!
Send some of that bloody rain down here! So dry!
Good stuff my friend! Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video Mark! Thanks for sharing
Brilliant
good afternoon Mark !! great update on green manure made from weeds !! thanks for sharing and happy gardening !!
From me, 1000 like! I regret, however, that not everyone applies it. (At least the amateurs) who do not want a lot of production. Good to you.
Love the metal raised beds.
Ohhh that rain on the background <3 Thanks for another edition of Scary Mark hahaha
We add stable manure, about 8 inches or more every year, but I'd like the start adding more green manure. We also have 4 com posters, but it's never enough. Thank you for the great information.
Great video, thank you. The weed variety with the little flower, looks a lot like Gallant soldier (Galinsoga parviflora) I think, which is edible and it also has medicinal uses.
do all weeds make good Compost? I just weeded my yard and have mountains of grassy type weeds..pulled up roots and all..I am hesitant to add these to my regular compost because I think they mat grow a bunch of weeds in my compost…then I'll have to weed my compost pile. Your weeds look much more friendly than mine. mabe if I run them through a shredder?..I live in North. Cal
grow a patch of sugar cane. fast growing and produces sweet rich compost for the gardens.
Good info mark. I'll use it on a few of my weedy beds.
Question: I have heard that some folks take kitchen waste/trimmings and bury them in a bed that will be dormant for a few months. As opposed to dumping the waste into a compost pile go straight to the bed with it, dig a trench and dump the trimmings right to the bed. Cover them up and forget about them. Any thoughts on that?
Great info, as usual!!
But: How do you ensure that the weeds are not re-growing at some point in the future?
Most weeds are actually herbs that benefit the body. Like dandelion is very good for cleansing the liver 🙂
I ** love you omg your so funny adorable I love gardening and you articulate with grace magic
HI MARK JOLY GOOD JOB YOU DO ,,,,,,,,, IM A NEW HOT WEATHER GARDENER IN QUEENSLAND AND WATCH YOU REGULARLY ,,, IVE GOT A TONNE OF CORN GOING IN NOW ,,,AND SWEET POTATOES COMING ON …..BE IN TOUCH REGARDS JOHN T
The weed you asked for is Gallant or latin Galinsoga. I am all the time fighting these suckers in Holland where we call them knopkruid.
Thanks Mark for this. What about couch grass, trying to get rid of it! What do you do to get it out of your beds?
Great video mark. Exactly the information I needed.
