I had ants that would use my tallest plants for aphid farms. That may be why the ants are trekking in that area. Those beds look like they dry out quickly (that's why they crack), have you added vermiculite or compost? Might give that a try.
Hey look, I checked out your channel and feed and you kinda seem like a "Know It All" saying you should do this, you should do that. This is gardening, let people experiment on their own without people like you telling them how to do stuff, ok?
