I love Shallots as they are great in cooking with their milder flavor and grow in warmer climates that Wales! But a fun thing to do to add to your work desk or window sill is to grow and sprout them in water. Please join me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HuwsGardenNursery

That's a bit like growing hyacinth bulbs in those specially designed vases they use to "force" the bulbs to flower in.
I have those! was thinking of putting a whole onion in one to see whether it would grow, but it might rot- thoughts anyone?
I have the first RHS Steps book on Vegetables- It's great! Keep a copy for yourself as well as doing a give-away. -personally- one of my favourite vegetable gardening books. Also lookout for Monty Don's 'The Complete Gardener' is you need inspiration. I could go on and on about great books, but I've got to get on with my films. Geat idea, too, btw.
Well, it should work–since I've seen UK online mailorder businesses selling those Hippeastrum and Amaryllis bulb kits with a vase. Amaryllis and Belladonnas are poison, but are obviously related to onions. If it can work for giant Hippeastrum bulbs, it should, most definitely, work for an onion! ๐
I will do them, thanks ๐ I have the Monty Don book myself and it is really good, time I wrote one myself haha thanks Dom
Hey, I know this is seven years ago but did this work out? Couldn't find the follow-up video.
