Avocados are notoriously hard to grow particularly in heavy soil (clay). This video shows a great example of how to plant an avocado tree in heavy clay and keep it from dying due to root rot or other fungal diseases.

Won't the tire add toxins to the plant and fruit?
that is an excellent idea, i hace clay soil and under it diatomaceous soil, the water stays in my water pond around seven months, i have planted many trees in 4 years and unfortunately they have died.
they told me to plant them in raised beds, I think this is going to be better, do you water the tree on the top or under it?
wont the tree die if the soil under it is very wet? (like in my case)
one last question, does the soil dry very quickly using this system? how often do you water your avocado trees?
thank you so much, i really liked your video
thanks. ill definitely try something similar.
unrelated question, whats the introductory music/soundtrack/song?, it had me jamming, tana na namanana
Root rot is not caused by clay soil – it is caused by a fungus Phytophthora cinnamomi. P.citricola, another species, causes a crown canker that can girdle the tree. Clay soil exacerbates the problem of root rot, as there is less aeration and possible saturation. Phytophthora can be controlled with phosphorous acid, buffered to a neutral state with KOH. The commercial fungicide of this formulation is called Aliette, made by Rhone Poulenc.
Thanks for the info and comments by others. I bought two square raised beds today for two trees I bought. I will get some washed sand tomorrow to put in to the soil/compost. I also saw elsewhere that Lucerne mulch is good on top but keep it back from the trunk of the tree
just so that I am clear, do I need to dig a hole or do I just place the young plant on top of the ground surface and add soil inside the tire?
can you tell me the diameter of the tractor tire? I'm going to try to plant avocado to a 35 inch diameter tire.
Is that a Clay Duck Quacking in the Background Use in Shooting Competitions?
Can the rubber from tires leach chemicals into the soil and effect purity of the fruit?
