http://organichomegrown.blogspot.co.uk/ There is a simple rule to adding weeds to the compost but you need to make sure that you get it right as one years seeding makes 7 years weeding. One tip I missed out is with things like dandelions leave the roots to bake in the sun so it shrivels up to avoid un-needed sprouting. Please like and comment!

Weeding before seeding works great. It also works to cut the "weeds" off at the ground, chop the greens back onto the bed, then put in a layer of compost over the chop. Perhaps old straw on top of that. Roots will often stay dormant as long as you don't till.
Can you eat the dandelion leaves just out of the ground or do you have to prepare them in anyway. Can you eat the like the nettles?? 🙂

Thanks for the informative video! I just started my first garden this year and I also just got a compost bin and was wondering if I could put weeds in it with the roots.
Great video Huw. You could also use weeds that have gone to seed by putting them in a compost tea and then you can add the whole weed to the compost when the seeds are broken down from being in the tea for a few weeks.
or if you have chickens they can get the weeds that have gone to seed
After 30 years, I'm still not convinced that composting temps kill weeds seeds. I've had thousands of volunteers come up over the years that I thought went through sufficient heat with no visible life. Then…… weeds LOL. So, never again for me. They go to the chickens or the burn pile. Never in the compost. JMHO
