Thank you for taking us on your FOOD FOREST journey. How will your understory plants get light after the trees get mature? Nice to see you planted comfrey under your Bing Cherry tree. Comfrey REALLY has a deep tap root and oh so beneficial to your fruit trees, to the earth and to you.
Most of the under story plants won't get light once the fruit trees are large and producing. So we are using the annuals to: get food production while we wait for the trees to produce, build soil fertility, and create many different interactions which help create a stable environment. The annuals are basically pioneering along the food forest, in the same way weeds pioneer along a forest when you just let it go, the trees don't come first, the weeds come to provide in ideal growing enviornment
I appreciate your style of gardening and am doing pretty much the same thing. I want to keep adding fruit trees at both of my properties. On my mountain property, I also want to plant nut trees. It is great not to have to water. Using the wood chips have really helped me in that department.
Yeah nut trees are a great idea, they are definitely something I need to look into for the future. Yeah for surre, have you been watching the updates of Paul Gautschi that L2Survive posts on youtube?
The Food Forest is coming through

I have been watching those videos. Paul is an extraordinary man. I'm so glad he made that documentary. It's changed the way I think about everything.
