Starting plants indoors can help you get a head-start on the growing season but it can be hard to give seedlings the light they would normally get during later months. If you want to ensure rapid, healthy growth of your seedlings after germination then using grow lights can make all the difference.
In this video, we identify which plants benefit from starting indoors, and explain how grow lights can be used to improve the health of these young plants. We then demonstrate some easy steps to follow so that your plants receive all the benefits that using grow lights can provide.
If you love growing your own food, why not take a look at our online Garden Planner which is available from several major websites and seed suppliers:

In the video a planting planner is shown, where can I get a copy of this?
Thanks in advance

Thank you
Great video. Thanks!
Good video.
Where in the UK can we buy the free standing grow lights at a reasonable price? Have cactus seeds from Arizona that would benefit from this technique, yet had trouble getting the suitable lights. Have you a link to some? Best wishes, Steve
I have just bought a growlight and I was looking for 'instructions for use'. Your site gave me just the information that I need, Cheers.
Another great video, as always! Lovely polka dot socks, as well!
I love your accent! Great smile, too. I will try the grow lights because my seedlings are long and fall over. Thank you for the information.
Don't plants breath carbon dioxide?
For those interested in the lights used in the video…this is a similar thing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Greenfingers-GF7968-Grow-Light-Garden/dp/B0038NDWME/ref=pd_sbs_201_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=CG58BX0E9RPKRX0TRVTK

Don't think I could be bothered for tomatoes, chillies and peppers in the UK, I can turn a tray.
Charles Dowding growns beets and radishes, multi seeds per planting INDOORS. But I appreciate this was 2014. Now out of date .
OK. In the UK, good for watermelons and prob any other melons.
Anyone know how much these things cost to run?
Excellent advice, I like the specifics on planting depth, height from seedlings and types of plants to put under lights. Thanks!
Very, very informative!! You answered questions that I didn't even know I needed answered. Thank You!!
Is it possible for a grow light to be to weak for a plant to grow under it ? i have a normal light 2700k spectrum that gives 60k lux at point blank 10k at a slight distance vs a grow light that gives 3000 lux point blank 500 or less lux at a slight distance, i am still doing my research but i have big north window with winter comming i want to hang a grow light on my north window.
direct sunlight from my west and east window gives 60k lux
What grow light unit is this?
Thanks! Good straightforward info.
I was looking for info on when to expect my pumpking seeds to germinate. I have been too impatient because the broccoli was quick to sprout. Your presentation was very clear and helpful.
Beetroot and radish are fine indoors.
Where can I get grow lights like the one you use? I have ones that clamp onto the window sill and they are no good!
Great video, thank you
