Adam, I think a water bottle cools down too quickly to provide the sustained heat that benefits germination. Heating mats are fairly inexpensive. I got my two dirt-cheap from a guy who decided it was cheaper to buy marijuana than grow his own, and sold his equipment. LOTS of entrepreneurs here, as it is de facto legal now. It's not for me, though. Thanks for the update, keep them coming. Steve.

Cheers Mark/Ian… I hadn't considered mice. If I grow the broad beans at home and plant them out when they're small plants do you think this will solve the problem? I'm assuming they just went for the bean rather than the plant. Cheers, Adam
I may have misread the perspective but those holes looked too small for rabbits. I would say they looked more mouse size.
