Nasturtiums are one of the most useful, edible flowers you can grow. They are a great companion plant as they attract beneficial insects and also it’s leaves and flowers can be eaten with a slightly hot yet sweet taste. Today I’m going to show you how easy it is to grow them.

NICE VIDEO, I HAVE NEVER TRIED EATING NASTURTUIMS, BUT WILL TRY SOME THIS YEAR,SOUNDS LIKE THEY WOULD BE GOOD ADDED TO A SALAD OR A VEGETABLE WRAP.THANKS AGAIN FOR THE SEED STARTING VIDEO!
Great! I'm getting ready to set out several. Just happened to see your video when I signed in. Appreciate you mentioning the planting depth.
When is best to prick them out?
Have you tried climbing nasturtiums? Yours are "bedding plants", you said, so they would be dwarfs. The seeds for climbing nasturtiums–with tendrils and all–are very hard to come by in the shops, nowadays. But I find that if you save the seeds from dwarfs, for a couple of generations, they go back to being climbers again. They do look lovely climbing up a wall. There used to be a children's story–in The Happy Venture Reader–about "The nasturtiums that were too big for their boots". It was about climbing nasturtium seeds planted in some old workboots. The vines took off and climbed up a wall and the whole village thought the house was on fire! The fire brigade had to be called. Haha. Lots of fun! 😉
It is amazing how I learn something new every day. Thanks showing me those flowers.
Thank you so much you just helped me figure out what type of flowers that is in my garden bed.
LOL! The seeds look like brains! Great video. Thank you!
I love to grow nasturtiums! I met a lady once who had nasturtiums all around her house. We were just having a conversation and I picked up a seed, not knowing it was a seed. Botany lesson ensued — just make a little hole and drop the seed in. Been an avid gardener ever since.
Do you water them in after you put the seeds in?
they taste great very mild /different. hard to start sometimes? maybe i will soak next time
I won't eat them, but will plant them around my square foot garden beds to keep some pests away. Thanks for posting
Huw, Something is eating by Nasturtuims. They have already done serious damage to two of my plants. Before it gets the others, what ways can I stop the damage. The bugs are very small and dark. (That is probably not much help, but that is all I can see.) Thank for any help.
i love it .. they can growin any season and don't require much sun , so its good for shady suburban areas
Can you just save time and eat the compost?
another tip about growing these is if you put a heat mat under them you'll cut there germination time in half.
my system is pick up hand full of seeds and throw on ground, if you cant grow these give up, I chuck on any waste land and they grow like mad
To aid germination you can file the seeds with a nail file.
they can grow in horrible soil, in shady areas, without a lot of water. also they seem to not like fertilizer or much attention at all.
How often should you water them?
Hi..i tried to save the seeds..i let them air dry for 1 day..is that enough for them to dry or do they have to be really shrivelled up dry?thx
Terrible narration but good demonstration.
You didn't water it?? Lol
Thanks for sharing your tutorial!
