There was a hail storm last night, and the ground was covered with a thick sheet of ice. I am going through and showing you guys how things look, and I am hopeful that some of the seeds in the ground survived. I will probably be ordering some more seeds in a few days, if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know.
VIDEO: Down But Not Out

Hope everything works out and you get some stuff coming back
@james prigioni, I went to a local store yesterday and asked them about row cover since I had already planted some tomatoes. They said they did not carry anything for that. He started offering the same old tips like gallon jugs with the bottoms cut off as mini-green houses, etc. Then I mentioned I had grapes as well and his response was "Oh they'll die off but come right back"…. I had to bite my tongue. I have grapes putting on clusters of flowers and his answer to just let it die. Good grief.
Happy to see that so much of your stuff pulled through!
Learned the same lesson last year LOL.Our last frost date is April 1st(PNW) but our plants died from frostluckily i had more to plant :D.This year waiting till after mothers day,Hope you did not lose to many plants.Grow baby grow!!!
I wondered about your timing. Oh welllll. Best laid plans sometimes.
you have a good attitude, sure that helps
You know James, maybe a lot of your seed will come. I live in Wisconsin and we are REALLY COLD. Sometimes, tomatoes & cukes and the greens come from self seeding the season before. My heart aches for you. We got SNOW here, but we northerners are use to this YUCKY weather…yet that doesn't make it any easier when we lose crops to cold. We have been down in the low 20's the last few days and I have some small 'cold crop' seedlings in my raised bed. I covered with 'row cover' and a small hoop house. I will be doing a video update soon, to see if they made it through this cold spell. Good luck my friend. Smiles, Lark
Yeah we had the snow up here yesterday. but it looks like most of the plants I had out are okay. I think nature survives more than we give it credit for. In Jurassic Park that one Character said,"Life finds a way." I think that's the way God made things so that it would take a lot to kill them off.
You might be surprised at what survives. Snow can be a great insulator, and it looks like you have mulch on your garden, that is an insulator too. I'm looking forward to the update later on in the week…….God bless!…………………Ann
nice attitude
I know how you feel. We had a frost here in Texas and I lost some of my tomatoes half of my corn and all of my beans. Luckily I have some back up tomato plants but it's too late to replant the beans and corn ;( This has been such a strange year for weather.
Good attitude!!! I plant end of may for that reason , cold crops won't be bothered though corn needs soil in the 50,s to germinate cold soil it will often rot , it is so hard not to get in a hurry though
Very nice and spacious area for growing! :))
why did you decide not to use the cold frames this time around? are you using them this year?
