VIDEO: Using the Garden Planner to Plan a Vegetable Garden

💛 📖 See the GrowVeg book here: https://www.growveg.com/growveg-the-beginners-guide-to-easy-gardening.aspx.
The Garden Planner is web-based software that puts the information you need at your fingertips while planning a productive garden. A comprehensive selection of vegetables, fruit, herbs and companion planting flowers are available complete with Grow Guides. It’s easy to sketch out your garden area, add objects such as raised beds and compost bins and rearrange items for the perfect layout.

As plants are added, the Garden Planner automatically spaces them correctly, calculating how many will fit into each space. By using data from local weather stations, the best planting dates for your local area are shown and the system can send you email reminders of what to plant through the season. You can allocate plants to be in the ground during different months and view how your garden changes, making it easy to organize succession planting.

When planning the next season’s garden, the system copies the layout, remembering where plants were in previous years and advising where to place them based on the principles of crop rotation.

In this video we present a quick overview of the Garden Planner features and show how it can save you time and money when planning your perfect vegetable, herb and fruit garden.

  1. OMG I love it. This is my year 2 with a green house but this year I am going what I call FORMAL lol half of my yard has beds and a water drop system installed…. I am so excited, this is an awesome tool!! thanks a bunch for sharing. Following you now 😉

  2. Unfortunately, it's somewhat useless for me. Though I have a proper in ground garden I also have massively expanded it using above ground facilities. I have 20 very large hanging planters for herbs, and I have many very large pots containing 4 cubic feet of soil each. I saw no facility in this video to include such an arrangement. I love the idea though and would be interested if these items were available for inclusion in my planning.

  3. Hello! Great concept!

I would like to know if it the software is suitable to use for other regions such as India? Would all the calculations you use for bed planning, distances etc. be remain same for India too. Thanks!

  4. This makes the idea of starting a garden much less fearsome! I'm eager to give it a try with just a little plot and a lot of hope. Thank you!

  5. Ahhhh, organization. I need this as I've struggled my first few years of gardening with where to plant, what to plant "next" and how to rotate. I also didn't think through the placement of stepping stones, etc…this will help tremendously.

  6. Wish you could include vertical gardening as well as container gardening. These days land is scarce, especially in crowded cities. Urban farming is now the new trend and many live in apartments that have no access to rooftops, or that rooftop gardening is only meant for communities, not individuals. It would be nice also if it included sun, soil and watering requirement for plants.

  7. What version of Garden Planner are you using. Mine does not have a lot of these features. I went to the download link you provided @ Mother Earth News, and it is the same version that I have installed 3.7.3.

  8. This video simply "sells" the planner, but there is nothing that actually tells one how to use the features. I'm stuck and the non-interactive "guide" is not helpful at all. Worthless. +

  9. Thanks guys!! I have been growing a community garden for 2 years without much guidance and improvising and things were quite difficult, we weren't keeping track of what was growing were, our yield was really low but it was too much… to start learning the gardening side and try to reach out to volunteers and keep them busy… I have a plot now, so I can learn it all and then get back to the community with a bit more knowledge! 🙂

I tried the web for a week and watched all your videos and I got really excited about the garden! Definitely bought the subscription for the 2 years, you have made the tough managing part look like a game! Thanks sooo much! Still need to learn how to keep track with photos and notes… but the videos are great for tips! Thanks!

  10. Is there a feature that tells you what not to plant with eachother or suggests companion plants?
I know it mentioned. Rop rotation but what about avoidance/companion?
    Cheers
