Recipe from The Fannie Farmer Cookbook
1 dozen eggs, separated
1 quart milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups sugar
2 cups Bourbon
1/2 cup rum
1 quart milk
2 tablespoons vanilla extract (for those who do not have vanilla extract available scrape a little off of a vanilla bean a little at a time till you get the flavor desired)
3 pints heavy cream
Beat the egg yolks and salt together slowly adding 1 1/2 cups sugar. Beat until thick and pale. Stir in bourbon, rum, milk and vanilla till well mixed. Beat the egg whites until foamy and slowly add the remaining 3/4 cup sugar and continue to beat until stiff and all sugar is incorporated. Whip the cream until stiff in another bowl. Fold the egg whites into the yolk mixture then fold in the whipped cream. sprinkle with nutmeg if desired.
I have been wondering how to make egg nog and what it is, as it seems to be an american thing.. Thank you for sharing the recipe, but i think you can keep it..lol..I have no problem with drinking raw eggs..Here in england we had the salmanella scare and know all about it..:).. Anyway, with or without alcohol, its not for me..:)..I'll just stick to Jack and Coke, or lager…:)
All the best for the new year..:)
