Reminds me of filling up outside of Ottawa in a French area. I was going to tough it out in French but the conversation went "C'est tout?" "Oui" "OK, that's seventeen dollars and forty six cents". One word and he knew I was no French speaker.

I had to laugh when you were talking about your experience at the gas station. I recently went to Montreal for a few days and when I went into the stores I must have had "Anglophone" written on my forehead. Every person I encountered spoke English first. I was presently surprised as my French was high school only … and that was long, long, LONG ago. 🙂

I can't get Google Maps to even take me, by road, to Waskaganish! It suggests air travel – for a mere $1,800! LOL.
You're telling me that you guys hopped into a vehicle early one morning, in or near Ottawa, ON, and before midnight that day, you two were up at the shores of James Bay????

My wife & I live in Southwestern Ontario, and I always thought that Hudson Bay/James Bay was like waaayyyy up there, basically out of reach by mortal man! 🙂

It would be fascinating to me to know what this kind of trip costs… Any idea of what your costs are? I don't know how you quantify it either – by km, or by week? Curious how it compares to living at home, renting a home, etc. Thanks, Dave
Thanks guys, lots of great info. I am hoping the Canadian northern bugs are less nasty that the multitude of carnivorous creatures we encounter in Australia. My wife and I are doing a similar Canada trip soon. Well done..and commendable effort on the detail , it really is what we want to know about. Cheers to you both.

I'm thinking about doing this trip soon, but I'd be in a VW Jetta without great suspension. Do you think that would be risky? Is the road too rough? My car is pretty low to the ground.
OMG….so glad to have run across ur channel. I am planning on full time RVing starting next spring….kind of a retirement dream that I want to start a couple years before retirement therefore would need to winter in the RV for a couple years. I live in Kamloops BC and winters are not as severe as Ontario I don't think and will rent a pad with full hookups…..u make me think it is possible….thank u. U don't mention how big ur propane tank is and how often u have to fill it during winter?
I really like you videos. It has been a dream to do road trip all over Canada. Question: what is your plan on broken vehicle in the middle of nowhere ? and what if you do not have cell phone signal, how do you contact for emergency? do you guys have satellite phone ?

As a yank who is an absolutely lover of all things Canadian.. I have to say I got a great laugh in realizing those of us south of the border are not the only one who have a difficult time pronouncing Matagami, Chiasabi and the 1000 other sort-of-English, sort-of-French, sort-of First Nation words….. Love your stuff.

Commenting in 2018 but at 2:14…. I have been traveling long distance in many types of vehicles, it seems to be industry standard to size gas tanks so the vehicle gets about 620 km before the gas light comes on.

What an experience! At 8:07, there's a glimpse of a northern black fly, the size of a small bird. South central Quebec, actually. Black spruce, and Jack Pine. At 10:24, roughly, heading, obviously, due West. Thrilling.

Reminds me of my Alaskan trip, seeing very similar landscapes, only different is towering mountains in the distance where Mt. McKinley (Denali) is where I was at for several days. That was a trip of a life time.

I got my beautiful yellow lab from here. He was a homeless little puppy and a woman picked him up and we ended up buying him. Because he’s very adventurous, he adventured too far from home and has been lost for 2 months now. Interesting to see his home, he must of really enjoyed it there, it’s so beautiful.
