Today my growing season officially starts as I sow my onion sets indoors. If you are new to gardening and have never tried growing onions before then do give onion sets a go. They mature and grow quicker than using onion seeds and I’m sure you will be impressed with the results. In this video we show you how to get the onion sets started in trays.

Good job! Good luck in the new season Mr!
Thumbs up
Hi Adam, love what you did with the video! Hope you get some as big as Dan's then you can grow it to seed stage, save them for next season, and have whoppers!! Haha! All the best, I will be watching with bated breath!
Hah, laughed so hard when you mentioned Dan, lost my crochet pattern. (I want another shawl, man, it's just nasty cold out) He's good! I try sowing onions every year, no luck. I'll try the dense sowing method next year that one yard revolution recommends. Worked great for my leeks but by then i had already sown my onions. I caved and just bought a bag of sets as well. Whatever! No shame in that! I think there is a reason why there are sets, they are not easy to sow.
hi, thanks for the video, I put onion seeds in toilet rolls when they grew two inches I put then in the ground first time I've done this I'm a new gardener ☺ just have to wait?
That's my preferred size for general use too, though Dan's onions sure are impressive. This year I'm trying to grow some SMALL onions for pickling "British style". – One of the things I miss from my UK years. Spacing them 3" in totes is my plan for this year.
Awesome update thank you for sharing have a blessed day Adam
Hi Adam, I too have started my onion sets off with this method this year after seeing it on a Lavender and Leeks video. I am hoping to have a good crop as I always put in over a 100 or more. See you on the next video. Dave.
You don't eat many onions Adam ?? I plant about 120 sets and that's never enough to last me ???!!!!!
Great vid Adam. I went for the seeds as it's the cheaper option but didn't realise they were hard to grow?! Will be my first time so this might be interesting and probably disappointing by the sounds of things. Good to see your season under way, good luck 🙂 Jazz.
Hi Adam numbers to grow is always debatable we use or buy two a week on Red for salads and one ordinary. I have a tendency though to fill a bed I like to see neat regimental beds I don't know why. So, 12ft long beds is 30 a row The packets I have bought contain 50 Red and 40 Stouron which total 90. I have no problems in giving produce away, in short for your requirements your numbers are OK. Recognise the Panama Hat. Cheers Mike B
I watched your video. Video I liked. I signed up. I'm waiting for you to visit my channel. Thank you!
I planted mine exactly the same way but they lifted up out of the compost. Any idea why?
