  1. No drip for arugula my guess, funny..I was hand watering a small bed of spinach and the one that washed away and escaped attention was bigger than the frequently watered plants.

  2. Curtis, could you give the specifics for you land scape fabric and row covers and your source.ย  I know you say to use good ones, but whats "good"??? how many mill and what material should I be looking for.ย  thanks jim

  3. Thanks so much for making these videos! I've read your book but it's so awesome to see the visuals and everything in action!
Where did you buy your scale and the twist tie applicator machine?
Also, where did you source the mesh for your drying screen?

  4. I can confirm cloning tomato sucker shoots is amazing, i just had 5 rooted tomatoes after 6-7 days. From seed to get where they are now would be a month or more. Cloning is amazing and ive done it with herbs and almost anything, saves tons of time and what's cool is you can clone off your healthiest plants for the most vigorous and productive propagation. Turbokloner is awesome.

  5. For the crusty carrot problem, have you tried removing all the dirt in the row about as deep as the finished carrots will be,then fill it back to level with compost. its a huge use of compost, but it should eliminate the crust and make the carrots practically jump out on harvest.

  6. Hello Curtis,

I was listening to your problems with the drip irrigation and the inconsistent arugula crop. My first question is: Do you presently have other beds prepped identically which are producing to your satisfaction. If so, then why might this particular bed be different? If none (the beds) are to your satisfaction what makes you think the problem may be over watering?

As for the root crops and carrot harvesting in particular. Have you considered making more crop specific, root friendly beds (ie: with higher sand content and/or greater loam properties)? Roots bed and others beds.

If you can share, I am curious to know if you are harvesting ALL those micros with the Quick Cut Green's Harvester?

Also Curtis, thank you for this business inside and journal (And, TUF with Diego and other videos & comments) I picked up a bunch of useful information and visuals in this one! You have certainly contributed to my business and personal development. Much appreciated, I'll get you back as I learn/create more value of my own!

    Scott

  7. how do you keep your greens from wilting at the farmers market when it it hot? Do you rotate the bagged lettuces from the display back to a cooler with ice in it? Just wondering because I have had issues keeping some of my product cool enough on the display stand during the warmer months.

  8. Curtis, love your videos, and I support you by sitting through some stupid ads so I let them run to completion. Could you give us some information on the lettuce's that you are using. I know you speak of Salanova(TM). It's a little more expensive for the seed as I see it. Is it worth it? How much more harvest? More reliable? what advantages?
BTW, I know you say use the google machine which I have, but you must remember that all the subscribers really "trust" your opinion as well as your knowledge.
Keep up the great work. I am in my 50's and I am truly inspired by what you do.
    Thanks.

  9. Curtis, how do you seed your lettuce when your using landscape fabric vs just seeding straight into the bed? I just planted a row of lettuce using landscape fabric and that was a pain staking process. thanks

  10. Hi Curtis, Watched the whole 50 minutes ๐Ÿ™‚ Great episode. I enjoy looking at different ways of saving time and how you manage to use all that space to get maximum yield. Also, you can see all your years of experience in managing crop, knowing when to harvest and so on, just amazing !

  11. Hi Curtis appreciate you sharing the great content. Re the irrigation issue: could it have to do with the temperature of the water rather than the quantity causing the inconsistencies? You mention the irrigation hose expands and contracts in the sun so wondering if the water hitting the plants could be quite hot next to the hose. Had some problems with hot water from a garden hose stunting growth in my garden.

  12. Hello from Irelnad. Thanks for the time and effort you put in making these videos. Im currentyl setting up a small organic box scheme.. Ive only enough land to grow for 10people so far. Hopefully in future I can gain more land. Im just curious would you consider doing a video on shitike mushrooms? Ive bben doing some researech, and they seem like a great investment for small businesses. Is there a reason why you do not produce these mushrroms? thanks in advance ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. The reason drip doesn't work with the arugula is because it's a shallow rooted crop. Drip irrigation is designed to reach deep roots. It forms an iceberg/conical shape moisture pattern where most of the moisture is stored deeper down. Because of the shape of the moisture pattern, it won't provide good shallow root coverage no matter the frequency. High rotation crops with shallow root systems will do better with overhead irrigation. Root crops too because overhead irrigation will give you a block shaped moisture pattern. They are designed for irrigating the top 3-6 inches with complete coverage.

  14. what type of admitters are you using on your drips? I've been using the adjustable style. not quite like you but they do seem to distribute quite a large area. again never tried them in your setup.

  15. hey Curtis we grow arugula in ground basins ( sinked a few inches in , where then we would spray water it and keep it a bit soaked ) and even with that it doesn't grown all uniformly .. great videos I love em you're doing a great job !

  16. You could even toss the spray cleaned tools on the greens dryer. That reminds me,
a bathroom vent timer would be a good addition to that set up. Set the fans to
run 10 minutes and walk away.
