We were digging up a perennial asparagus to show everyone how to
transplant a perennial properly, so we dug up a 15+ year old asparagus
plant from the beach, in soft nutrient rich sand. What we uncovered was
simply amazing.

I want to take a leaf blower as help you out.lol
@Migarder Hey Luke how did this plant go? I was a bit worried after it went from sand to a far heavier black soil.
Why didn't you break it up into different pieces? Do you think it would have been possible?
Anyways…great video…let us know how it does.
Wild! So cool
How does sand give any nutrients
Why not use a fork and not slice through roots?
You could use a leaf blower to free it lol
Wow beautiful !!
So that's a female??
Not a bad video, but as large and impressive as the roots shown are, many – especially the deeper ones – were cut off and left behind.
A plant as old as that (15+ years), especially in such a light and easy-to-penetrate soil as was the case, would usually have a HUGE root system. Even just a 6 year old plant was found to have roots that extended 4+ feet all around, horizontally, and over 10 feet deep:

Where can we buy a asparagus roots?
Man I can’t find any 3 year old asparagus crowns
So what did you find when you dug up a 15-year-old bed? Did I miss something? I didn't see you dig up anything but a hole.
The dislikes on this video are from the aggressive vines that were choking out the asparagus.
Love this video ,thank You for posting
I transplanted an apple tree. Before 3rd growing season as it was getting to much shade. And was only going to get more shaded as I planted shade trees in the area.
I believe you should of planted it much deeper unless you are going to add mulch on top.
Update on the 15+ year asparagus please
Impressive!
Roots are a shovels worst enemy
Why bother get new plants for less hard labor and a new plant is more likely to live versus what you have done.
Think I’d just start over. No way I could dig mine up.
hi if i have an asparagus plant, is it possible to propagate it without seeds?
any update on how this plant did, that season and in the following seasons?
Can you divide that crown up new separate plants? After 15 years can you dig one up, divide it, and hit the reset button? Will the old piece of crown make new spears if the new crown is not there?
Beautiful roots. Nice
