Great "burn it to learn it" experience!
I canned salsa this year but it was a bit runny so I made a "Rotel" tomatoes I canned, Hatch chiles were on sale so I just made a bunch of that with onions, works out wonderful for cooking and i added cayenne for more heat. I also can beans with spices like cumin, garlic, onion, cayenne, and chili powder in them sometimes throw in a few peppers for my pepper head man, and he eats those for lunch often. But I totally agree all of that is super handy to have on the shelf!! Love my home canned stuff! I haven't canned ground beef yet, because my Mr is afraid it won't taste good, but one day when he is working I plan on it, LOL. He just won't know it until he eats something with it in it ๐
Man, that chili looks so good!!!!! I'm ready for Fall!
You have inspired me to buy some Lodge cast iron!
You use one of my "secret" ingredients in your chili! I have used cinnamon in my chili for years and if you don't go overboard with it No One can figure out what you did different. lol Mr. Peaches is such a sweet cat and loves chili…what more could you ask for in a cat.
I wish we had 4days of rain here in So Cal. It sounded so wonderful.
Add a tablespoon or two of Masa Harina flour or cornmeal mixed in a little water to that chilli and thicken it up a bit, also that will increase the bioavailability of the amino acids in the dish.
The first batch of cookies always burns, no matter the cooking medium. Looks delicious. We are just starting our homestead this year and aspire to have a food storage such as yours starting asap. Great video!
so glad you are trying all this new stuff, makes me wanna dive in and try it.
I've seen people use the food saver with the mason jar attachments and preserved their chocolates and candies for a longer period of time. You can also use it to help preserve your dehydrated items better as well. It's another thing on my list. I'm still waiting on my tomatoes to turn. My goals this summer was to start canning and I wanted to at least can blueberry jam and salsa since that's what we go through a lot in my house. I've done a lot more canning than I had a goal for but that's a very good thing! I need to finish up my applesauce then pick some wild blackberries and make some jam before they're done. I'm also wanting to try to make some of my own blackberry wine this season. If I mess up at least I didn't spend a bunch of money on the berries. I won't learn anything unless I try. I might not "burn it" but I'll hopefully have learned something! ๐
I love how you showed us the idea of using coconut oil to make cookies. That's a good idea! Might be really yummy to make white chocolate macadamia nut cookies? ๐ That chili looks so good and hearty and would be perfect for a cold/wet day.
Watching these videos are making me want to get more cheese and butter into my food storage. I'm curious if anyone watching has tried/used the powdered #10 things of butter? Does it really work like butter or taste well? I also want to look into the dehydrated cheese. I've seen people can butter and cheese but I know it's not recommended. I always thought I would miss sweets first in a crisis situation but you are making me realize how much I use cheese and butter and I will definitely miss those too. I know my kids will too!
Chili! So easy to have ingredients and so yummy and filling. We are dealing with rain too, always grateful but man does it complicate a busy life!!!
I like using coconut oil for my chocolate chip cookies. I have a recipe for a skillet cookie made in a cast iron skillet that you bake in the oven. You don't make individual cookies–just one large cookie. I wonder how that would work on a fire.
I love that you figured out how o cook cookies over the fire!!!!
Great advice on a quick chili. Would be great for our busy nights.
I have to say we are really enjoying watching your food storage challenge videos! Never would have thought of making cookies on a grill! Just might have to try it sometime!
I would have never of thought of cookies and cooking them in the fire. that is awesome!
This is so fun! Getting lots of ideas!
Oh…I wanna make some chili. Hubby wants me to wait. I am so ready for fall and making all the goodies. That is awesome that you made cookies!
I should try using coconut oil in more baking.ย I think it helps bread rise better.
cool little opening tool!
missed your videos, glad you were able to upload these. I really am enjoying this challenge your doing, learning a lot.
Another good one.
Enjoying all of these so far. Looking forward to all the rest.I'm quite new to the channel so I'm watching everything. . I've been at it for days. LOL
Patara could you can chili?
When it's too hot to bake these cookies will be great in a skillet on top the stove. By the way The Wildbunch will eat lightly burned cookies with just some grumbling.
