When you flame weed, aren't you worried about the soil microbes being killed which help to fix nutrients and promote soil bioactivity?
Dumb question, could/would the weeds be totally killed off if the tarp is left on "long enough"? OH, B.T.W. like the use of Sci-Fi wording "stasis"…:-)

I love your videos. I have a question for you. Do you come across ticks when you start some of these projects with your leasing of new land? I'm in a small town and we have a link fence but to the back we have woods and on each side of us are houses. One side has our neighbors pile of wood, the other, just grass and trees. Ticks are TERRIBLE every year our here. I'm not a fan of insecticide because I'd like to have our back yard a food forest but right now we have a pretty big garden here and this year we're expanding a smaller garden for our 5 year old. I know nematodes are great for grubs which I've found already in the ground this spring (we also have a japanese beetle issue that gets to our blueberries every year) and another nematode that can deal with fleas. What can I do to naturally deal with ticks though? Any ideas? Also, we plan to use the milky spore stuff to deal with the grubs. Will that ruin the soil which is built with compost and we add azomite as well as kelp meal to add some nutrients to the soil? Thoughts please.
Have you curtis or anyone used crop planning software? Is any of it useful when running 5-10 acres? AgSquared is broken. Granular looks expensive. most appreciated!
You probably don't get alot of wind there in the city. If I'd try to secure my tarps with only a couple of bags on the sides they would be gone in a couple of days 🙂
i see that this plot is fenced. If you want , next time try to strap with ropes the 2 corners of the tarp against the fence (the 2 corners of the tarp,those closer to where you are talking at the beginning of the video). Then go to the opposite side and pull with your hands to stretch it in one go! I thing it will take less moves,less effort to lay it all properly. Just saying..
curtis where you get the tarps?
Could you do a closeup of those tarps? Are they watertight and 100% lightproof, what happens when it rains on the tarps, do you gett puddles and such on top?
I'm really curious about the specifics because tarping sounds like an interresting solution for me here.

Curtis, congrats from Ireland on your imminent arrival. Also, I love your work, got the book today! Question, are your tarps permeable?
I've seen all my microgreen trays composted or vermicomposting. The peas, radish, sunflower, etc, will come back again and again but add a lot to your soil. The brassicas and small seeds will only take one till. If you need it soon, which you do, then use flame! The worm bins (1 million or so) were a meadow after multiple turnovers. Chard and irregular seed is also fantastic at lying dormant.
Love what you do Curtis and wish you still had time to make your own beats like the old videos. Keep it up, content is hard on top of being a farmer, but so many of us love your daily grind!
I use for that purpose black row cover; because tarp in my country is very expensive.
what kind of tarp do you use because tarps are pretty expensive?
Curtis, I haven't had a lot of weed pressure in my beds so far the weeds are coming in at the end at harvest time so I haven't been covering my area like this on my fast crops…I've been flame weeding in my rows on my longer crops…I wasn't able to do the 30" bed prep you explain on the channel and in the book…I'm doing a 24" row and running three to four rows on top…the soil is heavy clay and is hard to work to say the least…I only say this so maybe you could talk about the solutions to your problems a little more on the channel…I know you consult with a lot of different farmers and on one has the same conditions…there has to be more information from these farms coming in…thanks sir for your time and good luck
how far apart should I plant combative plants? is it the same distance for kale from tomatoes? as watermelon from cucumbers?

Thanks for sharing and helping us to do even better in our back yard gardens! On a side note, audio balance is challenging on this one — music is significantly louder than voice, causing discomfort for those of us who are hard of hearing and already at audio comfort levels for voice. Thanks again!
