VIDEO: If Everyone Had an Urban Homestead!

Regardless of where you live or how old you are… there are many levels of homesteading that can be done! A wonderful garden, a small orchard, berry patch or even a few hens (if permitted) can absolutely change the entire sustainability of every family. Add in working with wood heat, cast iron and even attracting pollinators can make a huge impact on everyone’s skill sets!
Let’s look at what Gardener Sam is doing this week!

  1. Love to see videos like this Patara! It really encourages those of us who trying to do the most we can while we are still living in town! I have learned so much from you!

  2. Wow so impressive! Theres proof in the pudding that no one can have a excuse for not having a garden! They did a outstanding job at integrating their perma culture roots with the birds and bees and butterflies and flowers with the edible landscape! Raised beds and whiskey barrels..love it..I always said think outside the box..GROW in anything is you dont have the space! This is a great example of how a little intuitive engineering goes along ways!! Great vid thanks for sharing

  3. This is what we are in the process of doing. Just installed more raised bed gardens. About 20 foot by 4 foot. Live in the city with small lot, but giving it a try.

  4. LOL ! I had a to giggle a bit when you said think out side the box ! Well i have cucumbers growing in boxes ! Those big oversize boxes that arrive from amazon they work great ! As the box breaks down over the summer it becomes compost in the garden !

  5. I just read a story about victory gardens that were grown during WWI and WWII.  They produced so much food that when peoples stopped growing them after the wars there was a food shortage.  Amazing how much small gardens can produce.

  6. I'm an urban homesteader too, and I think it brings so much value to a community. The more food production around you, the more you will be open to the idea of producing yourself. Just like the victory gardens of WW2, veggie gardens can change the world.

  7. We urban homestead ourselves. We love gardening and raising animals. Even though we are dreaming of a place up in the mountains, we are learning and trying new things all the time right now before we get our own place. What's the point of moving to a beautiful place if you don't know what to do with it? Hopefully, come this spring, we will be processing a lot of our chickens. It's a big step for us. That is really a beautiful place they have.
