  1. I used post hole diggers and planted my tomatoes 2ft deep since I had them in pots too long but they are producing great. 30 plants at 30 inches centers. Also I lice in Florida and that leaf rot you were talking g about well it hits me hard every year, since it barely freezes here in jax, Fl it seems to just stay in our soil and hit plants every year. but remove effected leaves or use copper and you should be fine. I also have to move tomatoes every year if I plant in the ground. The nematodes will kill plants every time. Ive been reading that interplanting also helps with soil born disease's. This year I planted white cherries, bellstars and sweet baby girls. the sweet baby girls are red cherries and i have yet to find a better tasting cherry tomatoes. you might want to try them. they are big producers and ofcourse an indeterminate variety which is all I grow. I tried the string method this year and love the way it looks and the mobility it gives me around the plant compared to using a large trellis. Without a greenhouse frame for the strings to hold on it made it a little tricky. I had to reinforce all the lines because they were to heavy. Oh and the root maggots destroyed my squash this year. I got to get some insect netting for sure. Stink bugs also are a problem here, the netting should help with them also. Learning lots thanks Curtis.

  2. Hey man, what do yall do in these shorter hoophouses using lower and lean when they reach the top and then they are lowered. mine are leaning all in the pathways. What's your protocol for dealing with it?

hope the workshop is going well and hope you, mamma and baby are doing great

  3. This topic came at a right time. am planting tomatoes right now. I have been to home depot to get pixie dust and they don't have it, tried 3 more hardwares they don't carry it. We're can I buy this Pixie dust in San Diego. halloooo

  4. ok bro, im confused now, I thought if you buried a plant too deep, or past a certain point, they'd rot and die or something like that…… Relp, now im double thinking my gardening skills lol

  5. Good video, but it is not correct to say that tomatoes can't have enough nutrients. It is best if your tomatoes are a bit short of Nitrogen, because a shortage stimulates tomato growth instead of leave and stem growth.

  6. I planted my tomatoes super deep this year and dry farming. Unfortunately the deep planting seems to have brought the wrath of gophers more than usual. I think they're taking advantage of the thick stalks being nice and protected deep down. Oh well, still have plenty left. Ive been trapping but can hardly keep up with it

  7. It was pretty cool to hear Roger in person this week talk about – he took a ton of time to walk us through any questions we had. I've grown tomatoes for years, and I walked away with a ton of new info. Thanks Roger!

  8. Awesome. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I haven't been happy with how we tied up our tomatoes with a new trellising system using T-posts and electric conduit. Thanks for all the detail!

  9. I bought the assassin shovel and I love it! It is a shovel that is long and narrow and has a saw blade on both sides of the shovel. Great for digging up roots!

  10. If you have a real leggy plant you can try to make your depth work out so a flower cluster is close to the bottom. One leaf then flower cluster is a great start. Leave the flowers on, the plant will be fine.

  11. Better off not adding bone meal and compost to the hole. This will delay root colonization within the soil as they have the nutrients directly on the roots they do not spread as rapidly to find nutrients in the surrounding soil.
