True! We tried to go for a 3 day trip last month. Phone rang on the way back home…"cows are out" ! The critters know! They KNOW!!
Gotta get in a vacay before we're in your shoes!
Oh my – u need to do something special for that man
same thing happened to us a few weeks ago! no one wants to watch 4 kids and milk 3 goats.
31 years of marriage here. never a honeymoom.
That was so sweet of James bless his heart.. gotta love him!!! Sure y'all will get to go sooner or later… until then you get a new calf.. so exciting.. you are so blessed girl.. seems you are getting to live your dream!! God is good!!
being to as that is the life me and my wife would love to live the homesteading lifestyle to me it would be a vacation. loved the video ty for your time you took on it
Time with your husband is so important even if your cow has a calf. Please go with your husband. Never a wife or husband said they wished they stayed home and milked a cow and didn't spend that time with their loving spouse. Please reconsider and trust God to take care of the rest.
Fall would be beautiful! I love the saying "Create a lifestyle you don't need a vacation from".
I think we all need a breather once in awhile.
Your mini honeymoon will happen.
So sorry about your vacation! My mother used to time the cows pregnancy so she could stop milking for the week in July when we took a vacation. But …our cow was artificially inseminated AND my father got the same week off every year. Easier to plan than your situation. If I was closer, I would come over and milk for you. It has been a long time, but I haven't forgotten how. You deserve a break!
so that is why you go on all those drives! minivacations 🙂
You are 100% right on Patara (as usual). 🙂 We just returned from son's wedding in England. This trip was in the works for 18months. Planning is absolutely essential and two things that had to be in place before we even thought about taking a trip ( which is very rare).
#1. Vet. I insured she knew we we're heading out. She came for a farm visit two weeks prior to our leaving just to give everyone a 'once' over. Our vet is absolutely the best. She's available 24/7 and is irreplaceable.
#2. Our farm sitter is THE best.
thanks for reminding ppl that although it's a beautiful lifestyle, there is still some sacrifice to it.
Thanks for the comb recommendation! I'm going to try it on my angora rabbit.
I can't go anywhere. It takes me 6 days just to cut the grass every month, not to mention … This homesteader vacay at home! I can't get anybody to babysit my garden, blog … 🙂 I am thinking about day trips because I have to go fishing!
Great video thanks for sharing
Grew up on a small farm with a cow, chickens, pig, goat, lamb and cats and dogs. Never could go away because someone had to milk. We also raised black raspberries along with tomatoes and potatoes and other garden crops. I have 8 chickens, cat, dog. Thank heavens my children are grown so we can get away once in awhile. You have chosen a clean good life but a lot of work. I send you my love and may God keep you strong. Thanks for sharing your life.
Boy, you've got that right. We moved here to our farm almost 4 years ago. At our other place, we had a farmer right behind us who would always take care of everything. We had no idea how good we had it. Since moving here, we've not been away together overnight.
Southern women are the best women.
you are so unique! you could carve out some time for Nicholas to take over while you both sleep in for a weekend? isn't that just as good as a honeymoon!
I am a farm sitter, and I am one of those folks that can be called in to take care of a homestead, or any other small farm, so that you can actually get away for a couple of days. I'm happy for you that your husband was able to find someone in your area to help out. That being said, I greatly appreciate your decision to stay and not risking leaving at that critical time. I've gotten "stuck" with calvings and the aftermath before, and it wound up being far more stressful on not only the mamas, but the whole herd than if the person or people that they were used to were there. There ARE qualified farm sitters out there, which make vacations possible, but for best results it's best if you can schedule getaways for times when there is less going on. I hope you're able to make it to Biltmore in the fall, it is truly stunning in early- mid October.
I live in Asheville ❤️
i'm not sure if i've ever left a comment before but i just wanted to say thank you for these types of videos. several of your videos have given me serious reality checks whenever i start to fantasize about having an off-grid homestead with all the animals, large garden, land, etc. as beautiful as a lifestyle it is, i know deep down it's not right for me. i'm a restless soul that needs to travel and see the world; it just wouldn't be right if i were tied down to one place. nonetheless i can certainly experience it vicariously through you and other great youtube homesteaders lol!
Consider the life of a cheese slave before you jump in and breed your goats. The milk is there twice a day. You gotta make cheese. 1 or 2 gal. –easy yogurt, queso fresco or Kefir, 5 gallons, cheddar. Prepare for an 8 hour project. Whew! Delish but comes at a price.
This is a topic of disagreement in our home! I grew up not going on vacations and don’t long for them. My husband, however, did and he jokingly curses my dog and chickens for not allowing us to take vacations. We still do day trips though. We never took a honeymoon either. I long for a cow or goats but I’m afraid my husband would not go for it for the reason stated above.
Hope you got your honeymoon trip in the fall to Ashville …..and many times since : }
