VIDEO: How to Grow Radishes (and get Continuous Harvests)

This video is all about growing radish, which is one of the best vegetables to grow in the garden if you want quick results. We grew the varieties Icicle (white) and French Breakfast (Red). Because of their quick growing qualities you can sow from March through to August to get crops through the growing season. (Zone 7b)

I love to teach people around the world about growing their own food organically and my end goal is to get as many children as possible to have the experience of growing food which I believe is one of the most important things a child could learn. 1. Your radishes look beautiful. I have a hard time growing radishes. They germinate and the stem seems to come out of the ground and get long, not bulbing up. HELP, please. :0)

  2. A great idea Huw for spreading the radish seed or any other sort of small seed by using an old jam jar and puncture the lide with a number of holes and then mix the with dry sand and place the sand and seed into the jar and simply gently shake the jar to disperse the seed, hope this helps your viewers.

  3. I used to plant seven aces per day and ship them to New York City 28 days later. That was 40 ton Simi load per day, shipping 1000 miles. We used 350 horsepower tractors mounted with 6 row harvesters. After lunch we did the finger carrots, then shipped another load of celery by 5 pm. I'm sure anything you grow is better than the food people eat in NYC.

  4. Eat raddish tops !!! I must give that a try .i will plant some seeds indoors this weekend and wait a few weeks for them to develop on a sunny window cill.Thank you for that information.

  5. I have tried growing radishes for several years now. Unfortunately, they germinate, get a small bulb, and the slugs & snails move in, I'm left with a stalk. I hate using slug pellets, and radishes seem much more appetising to the slugs than the beer traps, so I seldom get a radish for myself. It happens with almost all seeds germinated in the ground, though transplanted seedlings generally survive. Any suggestions?

  6. I tried Sicilian Radish for winter this year and it worked well. Sowed start of August after harvesting early dwarf beans. Bean harvesting roots since Christmas and they should last until end of February. Got the seeds from Real Seeds based in SW Wales…..
