  1. Well now on a lighter note Patara after you capture the opossum and the problem is solved(relocated), I invite you to consider making opossum pie. It actually has layers of yummy stuff and no opossum ingredients whatsoever, but it could be fun and tasty!

  2. We have the same problem in the city with rats. Have relocated some to wooded areas far from home so as not to have them breed in the populated areas. Live traps are great. Some areas may limit how far you can relocate the critter from where you trap them.

  3. I understand completely. Between a fox family, 2 raccoons and an opossum my entire flock of chickens were killed in a couple weeks. they were making off with 3 a day, different times of day. the foxes came up during daylight hours about noon and here it is illegal to kill red foxes.

  4. It is the side of having animals I like the least but that predator cannot hang out at my house we have a trap set right now I can't let my chickens out because of coyotes (very hard to get a shot ) and raccoons at night

  5. True story here. When I lived downtown we were allowed chickens so I had 10 of them for years. We found out we have lots of possums and a few racoons too. One night by husband hears the chickens yelling and being half asleep he did the best he could. Grabbed his long Celtic sword from off the wall and went running butt naked out the back door where he battled with a hungry possum. He won but buried it right then after realizing he didn't know if it was illegal to kill them within the city limits or not. By the time I stopped laughing at seeing him running out the door yelling with a sword over his head he had killed and buried it. He never did say what happened until the next day. When he came back in from outside he put the sword back on the wall, climbed in bed and went to sleep.

  6. 3 IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. NOT ACCEPTABLE. DO WAT U NEED TO DO GIRL TO KEEP EVERYBODY ELSE SAFE. SO SORRY FOR UR LOSS BCOZ U DO GET ATTACHED TO UR CRITTERS. YES MAMA SAID THEY'D BE DAYS LIKE THIS BUT THERE STILL HARD TO SWALLOW.

  7. We just lost 3 pullets to an opossum a few weeks back. First birds we lost to a predator. My only Welsummer, my only Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and one of my Speckled Sussex. It was heart wrenching. I’m still very sad.

  8. Patara, if you can't let Cochise out in the garden take him for a walk around there and let him pee a bit…can't hurt. Sounds like it's time for the other pup to be activated o.- Male dogs marking keeps the coyotes and foxes in check here.

  9. I lost 3 nice hens to a Possum, then my LGD nailed him. My Susie tore the heck out of him and I found him (a male possum) dead. He was a big male Possum and two hens I never found. The third, was beheaded and guts out like you described. My Susie LGD is golden. I find fox bodies every so often too. The LGD is worth their weight in gold. I am sure they have taken out many more predators I don't even know about. Micky used to bark and chase off hawks too.

  10. Looks like Patara is going to war folks and if scarlet with gold doesn't get this predators attention he will be in the next trap out of town. Hopefully to a better area then where they are now.

  11. Another good lesson from you. Thank you for speaking honestly. I'm so sorry for the loss of your hen, but I know you're looking out for your animals.

  12. We trapped 2 possums and relocated them a few weeks ago. We lost afound m duck and thought we were ok until yesterday when we lost our other duck. The hawks have been relentless, too. A rat killed our duck….who knew? Predators are absolutely on the rise. I'm sorry you lost your hen.

  13. Patera, Careful with Mr. Peaches. We had an opossum that attacked our cat ( who was at the time a fearless fighter!) I took Diamond to the emergency clinic early (3:00am) thinking that he would have to be put down – he did not look like he would make it. His face and throat were badly injured. He had been bitten in the face and the roof of his mouth, and that week infection set in … also into his respiratory and lungs. He has a strong will to live, and several hundreds of dollars and two weeks later, we brought our miracle cat home, but he has never been the same. I had no idea that opossums were so vile, but the vet made a statement that  made sense "nothing will eat an opossum… if you see one dead, it will not even be eaten by scavengers because they are so nasty".

  14. Can you please do a video about snakes??? I want to start a BTE garden, however, my area is infested with ground rattlers. I have taken out as many as I possibly can but they keep getting in. Help!
