VIDEO: New Quail Incubator & Collecting Eggs | Borotto Lumia 8

After several years of failed Chinese egg incubators, I have gone back to a branded model incubator for our quail eggs. This new quail egg incubator is an Italian made Ilumia 8 by Borotto and is all we really need for a small backyard quail egg operation.

  1. I actually finance my feed by selling chicks during the spring and summer months so I’ve got a huge cabinet incubator but I’m considering getting another smaller one for quail. They hatch so quick and they really get in the back corners of the thing and I’ve got to go in waist-deep after them. Also I worry when they hatch out at the same time as the bigger birds and co-mingle. I was considering a Hovabator so I’m glad you had a good experience with the brand.

  2. Can you go over what you feed them? I've raised pharaoh quail and Bobwhite quail, but when I did, I had to feed an expensive higher protein game bird feed.

Any tips on a more self sufficient feed, or cheaper feed, so I do not have to rely on a feed store to grow them?

  3. Hi Mark, I was wondering if you had any updates on your incubator and how it fared in SEQ temperatures. I've just got started with quails and my (cheap) incubator keeps overheating. I'm considering buying a new one (primarily looking for a larger incubator than my current one) and the Borotto looks great. Would you recommend it?

  4. Good video, well done, how it the machine going a year on? any hassles?
I am deciding to go an 8 or a 24,
I've never eaten quail, are these worth all the sorting through all the little bones?

  5. Thanks you! Because of your channel I got inspirerd to keep quails in my small city garden. I have a 2 by 1,6 m pen for 5 quail. I am really happy and so is my son. Just be selfsufficient in something……

  6. We ordered one of these incubators, plus the external humidity pump, placed water line in a gallon of distilled water. Eight of the nine goose eggs we placed in there are fertile. Due sometime between 27th and 30th. We are excited!

  7. Thank you Marc for all your teaching of the rest of us. I got into quail because of you and I have learned a lot about gardening and I grow most of my own vegetables. I keep a couple of worm farms and have learned to compost from your teaching. I am currently incubating my third batch of quail eggs and have learned as I go but I am a long way from being successful. Anyway thank you for your channel. You have also inspired me to make our own YouTube channel to tell the world about the Orphans that we are raising and educating in central China. It hasn’t really been launched yet but in watching you, we are giving it a go. Currently we have four foster homes and a school for disabled and abandoned children. So thank you for your part in that.

  8. Once those cheap plastic incubators overheat and you're looking at a fire hazard INSIDE your home, it's a bad way…..for you to die. I'm dealing only with incubators that have followup and a replacement price list in my country, or the USA.

  9. How does the THICKNESS of the Borotto plastic compare to the Chinese knock offs??? And can you use it cleanly as a brooder?? I'm thinking of the 16 for my personal use, but the humidity control is half again the price of the unit. Rcon has their humidity pump built in!!!

  10. Hi Mark I am from London. I got the problem with the quails they look like they have the cold only for one day. They eat well drink well the only problem its they can’t walk for 4 hours and they shake like they have cold autside it’s now -2C only they are in shed no birds go in side.TX FOR ANSWER
