What time is dinner? lol
Hats off to ya! I couldn't do it. But then again, I was always the different one on the farm. I wouldn't eat Black eyed peas, hated pinto beans, couldn't stand the pigs we raised, and CRIED FOR DAYS when my pet chicken ended up on the dinner table. LOL…
I wonder if people realize in Venezuela they are killing cats and dogs to eat. As well as horses and even zoo animals. The snowflakes need a good lesson. Thanks Patara for trying to talk some common sense to these people.
oh lord, thank you for the belly laughs today Patara… I loved this! I cook a lot of Asian receipes, and a great way to tenderize but quick cook tough meat is to use 2 tbsp soy, 4 tbsp Hoisin, 2 tbsp vinegar (I use apple cider), sprinkle all spice, ginger, garlic. Let it marinate as long as you like in the fridge, but even 15 minutes will tenderize it. (cut thin slices it cooks in about 5-6 minutes in a hot pan – coconut oil makes it taste sweeter or you can use whatever oil you have about 1.5 tbsp) It will caramelize so clean your skillet that night. 🙂 Loved this video girlfriend even though I let my possums roam & lock up my birds (they love to hunt the frogs in my fishpond & dig after grubs), I have a lot of respect for your tenacity.
I’m a noob at cooking fresh game how soon does it need to be cooked?
I have a friend whose father who regularly picked up road kill and if it was fresh enough he ate it. if I was hungry enough I would do it . I like that you keep it real.
I had to laugh, great video!
Also to get rid of possible parasites and other stuff soak in water with about 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/4 salt seems to also help tenderize
Course I also soak beef, pork and chicken too
You walked it, girl! Starting with the first video, I was kind of hoping you'd go this route. And you walked it! I would have eaten a piece with you by the fire, if you'd offered me one! My Grandma is young–like your Granny, and she grew up in rural Georgia, and they did eat opossum too.
No gettin' hungry here. Roast possum and sweet taters for 40 years…YUM! They're EVERYWHERE here in Lower 'Bama.
the saying "put you money where your mouth is" don't need saying here lol, because she gone done it already !! total respect to you Patara !! all over the world there is far worse things being eaten like spiders, scorpions, worms, rats, snakes and to many more things to mention.
If possible I'd cage him in a large secure quiet area. Feed and water to fatten him up. Maybe some scratch grain with a little molasses and even some chopped rosemary .
Thank you for sharing, in my family we were taught to be thankful for what we had. Sad to say I think some people have forgotten and just like to complain. I ate many things at my grandparents table, of course at the time was not told what some of them were – LOL I don't remember being told we had possum, but who knows. That reminds me, got to get preparing the sweet taters for supper tonight.
New T-shirt! Walk it-Don't talk it Thanks for all you do!
I don't know why but I wasn't expecting that at all. You talked about eating possum in part 2. Then actually ate the possum.
I would eat the possum for sure.
Love it! Too bad rats are just gross.
Kudos on walking Your walk! Love your down to business style. But to answer your question truthfully – to us, we'd rather starve. Possum is biblically unclean and forbidden as food – our walk is to follow that mandate. And hope we'd have the gumption to be willing to starve or otherwise meet our demise than compromise those principles. Not making ANY judgements here on anybody else and what they do. God provides. Love Ya
I'm glad you didn't release that critter. He would have come back and found your chickens again. Or had babies, who would have found your chickens.
Oh girl!!!! You go! I applaud your not bowing down to "fear of men." It's easy to take the easy road. Thank you for walking the road less traveled!
yumyum!
Yum yum possum n taters
Did I ever tell you that you’re my hero?! That’s some real integrity your showing right there, Girl! Awesome…(wait for it)…Awesome Possum!
Most everything tastes like chicken…lol. I have eaten squirrel and even horse. Growing up dirt poor off the sewanee river with 5 kids to feed your parents bought what they could afford which horse was cheaper than cow. Of course my parents never said what I was eating (until I got older and told me about the hard times) and it was rude to ask. When food was put in front of you, you said thank you to God and your parents and ate.
Outstanding!! I cringed a bit when you bit into to it but, I think you did the best thing for your homestead. Now you know and so do we. Thanks, I just love your spirit!
Cut it into pieces and boil until tender put in oven salt and pepper and bake until slightly brown serve with candied sweet potatoes and cornbread and fried mixed pickles
