Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started SSM in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. I remember in a previous vid that you did, I think you caught an adult quail as it tried to fly past you. It was an instant reaction from yourself and looked bloody amazing when you caught it mid air. Sign yourself up to the Australian cricket team mate 🙂 The incubator seems to work fine to me. Cheers Adam

  2. Hi Mark,,,when I came back in here I noticed that YouTube had unsubbed me. That's the second channel I noticed that. Anyway, I re subbed as I really like your vids.
Also, your an Aussie,,,and it's easy to relate to your style and what your doing.
Karin and I are considering possibly gettin some Quails as we don't have the space for chooks.
Great catch on that little one!
All the best to you and your family

  3. Nice! Bought a Borotto Lumia 8 this year since everyone here in Italy says they are very good, I'll see how it does with 32 shipped eggs, hopefully I get a 30-50% hatch rate

  4. I have a question, it's not about your quail but your symbol. Your Aussie, I'm guessing, my question is why don't you have the globe in the eye show Australia instead of North America, Central America and South America?

  5. Mark, Mark, Mark! There have been a few videos, out of the last few, where you don’t give us a big smile. I SOOOO look forward to your smiles and I’m SOOOO disappointed when you don’t give us one. That’s my favorite part! We love Self Sufficient Me and we love your smiles! So…

  6. Mark we decided to start incubating Quails based on your inspirational videos, we even started making our own video documentation – let's get into it!!!! 🙂

  7. It is hatching day for my quail.soi have two, but it has been 37.5 C in the incubator but 39 in the room… Can you hatch some when you had a really hot time so I am hopeful a few more might make it

  8. THANKS FOR THE VID, LOVE THE INCUBATOR STUFF, AND BIRD HANDLING. ALSO WAS NEAT TO SEE YOUR OVERHEAD CAT CAGE. THANKS AGAIN. YOUR TIPS ARE WELL TAKEN!

  9. Hey Mark, thanks for sharing all your knowledge. I have a question…. I started an incubation just after Christmas and now it is hatch/lockdown time but we are having a heat wave. I can maintain humidity but not temp. The machine says it's 37.2 giver or take but I have a little one inside the incubator that hits 39 in the hottest part of the day. I feel this will ruin the hatch. What is your opinion.
    Cheers Rach
