This video shows how to grow lettuce in glass mason jars hydroponically, meaning in water instead of in soil. I use the Kratky method, which does not need an air pump. A simple glass jar is good enough to grow the lettuce as you will see. The seeds sprout very quickly, and in just 5 weeks I have a beautiful harvest! After another 2 weeks the leaves grow back and I am able to harvest a second time! Very delicious both times!

After you harvested the lettuce the leaves grew back quickly because the roots were established and could soak up more juice.
It’s been 3 weeks and my seedlings are tall and spindly but no roots are coming out of the bottom of the rock wool cubes. A couple have their first set of true leaves. Suggestions?
Great information and well presented, thank you for sharing.
From where you buy the seeds?
The best how to video ive come across about hydro. I'll be using this method. Thank you very much for sharing your info and ideas
How many seeds? How many will you use next time?
I put my lettuce in a vacuum bag and put just enough vacuum on them so as not to crush the leaves. They last 3 times longer.
Congratulations! Your videos are the best in the tema 😉
Can you grow lettuce this way all year round?
Hmmm…. I think a redesign in the self-watering soda bottle planter would come into play here….
No more soil and water wick.
Putting lots of holes so the roots can go through.
Once the plant has been transplanted, put small stones or pebbles for stability.
Add enough water and cover the outside to prevent algae.
The grow light you recommended has quite a few bad reviews. Do you have an alternative?
excellent teacher
Thanks again for another very informative video.
One question, do you refill the jars for second and third harvest with plain water or still add the fertilizer?
Just a heads up to save potential money with this. Make sure to get the widest lip net cup you can. The regular mouthed Mason jars are too big for the cheap Amazon net cups and fall through. There are some made by CZ Garden on Amazon that are perfect! Wish I would have known before but all is well now love the videos again, thank you!
Truly one of the most concise and informative Hydroponics videos I have seen, for a beginner to start with. Subscribed!
How many hours of light you put the seedlings under ?
Lettuces? No weed? Seriously?
Can you recommend a different fertilizer/food? The ones you recommend are not available on Amazon. Are you looking for any specific ratio in the fertilizer? Thanks!
Hi Tikki! I couldn’t tell if the rockwool was touching the bottom of the net cup or if there were clay pebbles on the bottom first. Would you please let me know? Thanks so much for all your videos, love from Ontario Canada!
What are those cubes again? Thank you.
Mine was growing good, but never got any roots show thru before falling over from being too skinny in the rockwool. Help what went wrong?
Thanks for the video.
Hi Tikki
Enjoy your informative vids. Am starting my lettuce hyrponics from watching yours!
Can you please do a vid on lights, when to put them on? from seeds? And how far apart?
Thank you
I've tried this above, but when I plant the seed in the rockwool in the plastic container, I just get algae and no sprouting! What am I doing wrong?
Your presentation is excellent madam and any body can follow and do hydrophonics with good success.
So do you throw away the plant after 3 harvests?
I agree with the comment section. This is the second video I watched from this channel. It's always so informative. Thank you so much for this.
Thanks for this video. It's help me a lot
