VIDEO: Snake Plant Care: How to Grow The "Mother In Law's Tongue"!

If I had to create an award for the best houseplant for beginners, the humble snake plant or “Mother-In-Law’s Tongue” would win it.

You can pretty much ignore this plant for a month and it will be fine. They have a beautiful and striking appearance in your home, and even remove toxins (benzene, formaldehyde) from your home.

Without further ado, let’s get into exactly how to care for, troubleshoot, and propagate the wonderful snake plant.

  1. I have 2 snake plants on the sides of my garage in planters in FULL SUN and I live in the South where it gets extremely humid and the average temp from July to October is 92 degrees. We also have severe thunderstorms where it floods and my sansaveria get extremely drenched and let me tell you, those suckas are full, more healthy than the ones in the house and have grown so tall in 3 mths that I cant believe that they are the same ones I planted 3 mths back. So they DO very well in full sun, heck they do better.

  2. I love snake plants and having a collection of them. Now I know how to takecare of them , thanks to you for this wonderful info. I liked your shelf or ladder on which you kept the snakes. The snakes on ladder ☺

  3. Thank you for these videos, very helpful. I have a couple of these plants and I may have moved them to a pot that is too large and the leaves over the year have developed a vein like look and feel and droop a bit. I know I have good drainage and I think I'm following the watering guideline with the finger measurement. Lighting is not direct but I do think what they are getting is adequate. Suggestions? Thanks!

  4. I have a question that has bothered me since I started my plant collection. When watering my snake plant, I will have a long leaf along with its "sister" leaf. Not a pup mind you but just the second leaf that is growing as part of it. Where do I actually let the water pour!? I know this seems simple but, The water wants to run along it and touch the plant and depending on the size of the sister leaf, the water will always run into the "crown" of the plant. I have tried watering clear around it but it makes the soil too wet for too long. Can you show me where you place the water?

  5. I have a snake plant that I call my birthday plant . My mom got it as a gift when I was born. I am 62 years old.
I now, break off a piece and give it to others as a baby shower gift.
