Would you say soil blocks are a good way to start seeds?
I use the plastic one.. Though I use a skrewdriver to get the plant out.
Peat pots are great for starting things that do not like to be transplanted. And i prefer them overall.
I have been using the plastic units, unless it is a crop that has roots that hate being disturbed / the packet says to grow in final location, then i will use the paper units so i can just plant the whole unit directly.
I like to put a little cheap cinnamon in my seed starting mix. It is all natural and has antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant properties and is a very good natural rooting compound as well i have even sprinkled it on dirt containers that had fungus in it and it killed the stuff making the plants sick and saved the plants i thought for sure were toast
Where are you finding the starter tray for 2.50?
Not jus use a hot iron and turn peat pots into net potz
I want to make a see-saw that tells me when to water. Obviously the weight of the plant growing will slowly skew the concept, but by that time the plant will be big enough to plant.
Intro song S L A P S
The link for the tray is $14.99
I am using these to seed start but dont have grow lights. I have put them outside with 2 hours of sun and the lid on. Carrots, cilantro and green onion seeds with 1 inch of water in the tray for bottom feeding. Is this okay?
I try peat pots every year and they a) they never degrade, b) my seedlings seem weaker, c) they take up too much space, d) they are an ongoing expense. I also use plastic and a) they never degrade, b) my seedlings appear stronger, c) they take up less space, d) I have used the same trays for years
Thank you for your great information, A lot I just now learned. I messed up seeing this to late, I planted seeds indoors and in the peat pots and now I need to transplant them and it's to early for outdoors so please help!..What do I do now?
nope… what you grow seeds in does not matter at all. you can germ in a wet paper towel. these youtubers love to sell useless product to you in order to make money.
They are totally reusable if you keep them out of the sun. If you leave them out the UV light will degrade the plastic and it will become very brittle. Felt that I should point that out.
Mold and moisture also leads to…dun dun daaan!….fungus gnats!
Don't waste a dime on those pods, by some good medium, put it in a starter tray, cover it for three days, and then all the sun you can give them. Why can't you grow 'organically' if you start your plant in a plastic tray? Organic is a joke out in the market, I challenge everyone of them!
Pretty good review! That helps
The amazon link to the 72 cell tray is broken. I can't find anything like it on Amazon, and nowhere near $2.50 either. Anywhere else to buy these things? I'm sure a nursery would charge $8-10.
For me, peat pots drain the water from plants and the soil mix of every sort does not hold water long enough to benefit plants. Soil from the woods, that I sterilize in my oven have resulted in the best home started plants for me.
Those are thow back prices.. Peat pots are now 6 bucks and that plastic pot you have is 9 bucks.. Good video though!
hormone inhibitors is a REAL thing
Love this video, but since 2 years ago the tray is almost 6x the price u mention in this video
Plastic might be non bio but in the other hand, I think about the trees that I am saving using plastic.
Do you use different size plastic seedling containers for different veggies, or do you use the same size to start all your veggies?
Have you ever thought about making soil blocks to start seeds?
Nothing wrong with using plastic for starting seeds. They are reusable, they last long, they drain well, ect. everything you said is spot on. I have been using my plastic seed starting pots for 3 seasons now and there is nothing wrong with them. I have had many issues with paper like pots. Love your content brother
I use plastic. I to have found it works the best.
