This was an experiment to see if my favorite brand of popcorn would sprout and grow into microgreens……and they did!!! But not all of them sprouted, as you will see in the video. Enjoy!
VIDEO: Popcorn Microgreens: Will Orville Redenbacher Popcorn Grow?

Ayyy
Thanks for sharing your experiment! I just learned that you should grow popcorn in the dark, and harvest at about 6 days, when still yellow. From what I've read, it will then be very sweet, and not fibrous. So it may be worth trying again and keeping in the dark. I haven't tried this yet, but it's on my list!
Great Video Tikki O. Very good experiment. For great tasting corn shoots, Do Not allow ANY light. I place a cardboard box over the shoots the entire time. Harvest at about day 6-8. The shoots should be about 5 inches and straight up (looking for light). Your harvest will be sweet and taste like corn on the cob.
I like this video and how you explain things (for example the tape). I've been growing microgreens for some years now, but just now learned about corn as an option. My varieties usually are Daikon radish, sunflowers, peas/lentils, broccoli, buckwheat, flaxseed and red cabbage (the latter as an attempt to raise my iron levels). I will soak some popcorn tonight, but probably go with the no light method another commenter mentioned. All the best!
Very interesting video. Never thought about corn. Do you think just using paper towels like your other videos would work as well or not?? Thanks.
Thank you for sharing this experiment! I just started sprouting lentils. I don't know how they will taste yet but they are sprouting. I was thinking of other easy to get stuff but never would have thought of popcorn! I know you said it wasn't your favorite but we all know people that say wheat grass tastes good! Worth a try if I find that old bag,…
haha this is awesome
well it worked …carrot next lol

Hmm! I'm thinking I might want to try some quinoa I have in my pantry. Great tips!
Will it work with jolly time wight pop corn no GMO
it might sound dumb but do they grow into corn stalks?
gmo?
Tikki that was a fun experiment. I know On The Grow just did a "corn microgreen" vid, theirs were more yellow at the end of the experiment. And, they too indicated they were not jazzed about the flavor. But this was fun just the same.
If you want them to taste like sweet corn, they must be grown in total darkness, so they do not get the chance to produce chlorophyll.
So what's the point of microgreens? As opposed to none?
Did you water them at all after watering the soil at the beginning?
Clear. Concise.
Use other seeds. Popcorn microgreens are lovely and sweet. They are a great way to get kids to enjoy microgreens.
I love stuff like this. Thank you. This was what you tube was about. My chickens would love this.
Do you suppose you might have had better germination with a 15 lb weight on top? I'm finding its absolutely critical
I don't like this video, because I love it I'm going to grow in my containers.
Odds are they are 2 to 3 year old seed. For microgreens you want first year seed. There's a brand you have to order off the internet called "Tiny But Mighty" that's a rare type that is likely always fresh since they sell out every year. I order it by the case which saves money.
These micro greens are to be kept in black out the entire 8 -10 days so they do not get green or Fiberous. Taste like corn on the cob. Delicious.
Sweet corn the same way. Taste like sweet corn.
This was my first 10 x 20 tray and was great.
I actually grew mine on paper towel.
