  1. I'm hoping to work Dave's plan as well, I've listened to him for a couple of decades but got distracted or injured..which is why I'm back in the truck..knock out as much if not all of my debt! Great video..it's not a race.. granted it can be a busy lifestyle, but the point is to be prepared and let's be honest, you will NEVER be 100% prepared!! Thank you again for all you do and share!!

  2. Common sense is not so common anymore! Such good advice. Do what you can do with where you are at, learn from it and then decide what the next step is for you!! I live in the city had given up gardening too much trouble. I started watching you last fall. I have three 8X4 raised beds this year and have picked spinach, beans, squash, onions & tomatoes because your videos encourage people to start where they are and learn skills. I learned that from you dear lady!! Not sustainable but I am learning & adding at my pace. Thank you.

  3. Used to work for an engineer doing heating and air conditioning. 80 degrees is comfortable, depending on your padding. You expire at 106, so your head to judge the difference. I did not plan on the train wrecks, but God let them happen, you know where to turn when others say, surly these things don't happen to a righteous man. I hope they're passed, but even so, He's still God, worthy of all our praises. Thanks Patara, we can only do so much in a day.

  4. Patara, thank you!!! This helped put me more at ease, although I am going to have to let the hubby watch. Lol he gets so excited to be "back in the saddle" again, if that makws sense. Thank you again and God bless!!

  5. I have given alot of thought into what we will have on our place I told my wife chickens would be fine with me if that's the only thing we have because my health is not going to get any better and I'm the one who usually does all the cleaning and dispatching the critters and with that it would be alot for me

  6. Patara, Most timely! I liked that you related some specific instances in which you recognized this need in your own venture, and then told us what you did to remedy the situation. That, I think, is the most effective and respectful way to help someone who you see heading for a "crash & burn" scenario. Sugar coating it and speaking in riddles and code takes up too much time, and is too vague (they simply may not "get it"); therefore, those styles of communication are not helpful. Your directness is a positive, in my view – a true kindness, as long as you don't belabor the point (aka "talking past the close" in Retail Sales parlance). (:

  7. You could step wrong at your child's music lesson, break your ankle and rip a tendon. I did in September, months on not being able to walk and surgery! I am still not back to where I was. We are doing ok but I have really had to think about what is necessary and what is needful and what I can let go. Letting go of my garden because I just can't tend it properly has been hard, but better than buying plants and watching them die.

  8. Patara, what you are saying is so true. I have 1 roo and 5 hens and only added 6 more this year and 3 ducks as I believe you can get overwhelmed. Right now I am content with what I have and in a few years when I get a place with more land I will be getting Bees!! I also am planning on a garden large enough to be able to feed myself throughout the year , Have a good day!

  9. There's a reason so many people left the farm. Farming is hard. Eight hours a day is easy. Makes me wonder how many of these young homesteaders kids will carry on the homestead way of life. That is what sustainable is really all about.

  10. Thank You Patara! I really needed to hear what you had to say about "Less is More~". It would have been nice if I would have found your channel a month or two ago, but your message probably wouldn't have had the same impact.as it did today.
Now I need to apply some common sense to my life, rethink my priorities, do a reality check, accept that my age and disabilities limit what I can do in a day and what projects can be accomplished, rethink my priorities again and then slow down and enjoy life.

  11. Patara You are awesome. Where did Common Sense go ? It would be nice to live the way you do. I can't and I know I can't , I only have a small little space for Tomatoes and Beans and I know that's all I can do. You Go Girl.

  12. Spot on! Lol! I hate brussel sprouts, but the darn things are the only things that are staying alive in my garden right now!! Since when did tomatoes not want to grow????! Many of us also have to realize those real bummer health things in our lives have drastically changed what my mind thinks I can vs what my body says.

  13. My first husband was part Cherokee. His family is from NY. I guess some Cherokees went far for jobs. You bring up a good point, less is more, so you can give your all to what you have. I like how you study the animals for years before you consider adding them to your farm. You are one smart cookie. Do you ship eggs? I'm in Myrtle Beach and cannot find a local breeder here. I love your channel and I love your energy and your relationship with your husband, children and animals. I'm a new watcher.

  14. I love finding these little pep talks… It always seems to be just what I need to hear! I know deep down I need to wait to start raising goats… I have 4 kids at home that are homeschooling 11 – 2 in years… lol.. (I have raised goats years ago and loved them.) Tis the season, not for goats..
