Hi Everyone, in this video I’ll be conducting an experiment with broccoli microgreens. The belief is that the seed contains all the nutrients the young sprout and microgreen needs, and therfore no additional nutrients are needed. If this is true, then the paper towel should yeild similar results to the growing on soil. The paper towel method is a cleaner way of growing broccoli microgreens… but I’ve been wondering if the yield is the same as growing them in soil? If the seed truly has all the nutrients a plant needs to begin its life, then we should not see much of a difference between the plants.
So I set up an experiment to compare the two methods…..to see which would produce a better crop. Please comment below, I would love to hear what you do, thank you for watching!

I love this experiment. Simple, straightforward, and clear-cut. Great work.
Once harvested, can the snipped off micro green roots yield new sprouts ?
To get to know the difference between both, would be great if you could measure quantitatively and run ANOVA, etc to look at a difference

Thank you great video!
Neat. Logic tells me a seed will develop better in soil than in the air or on top of a paper towel but it's nice to see it.
Thanks for that
Thank you for all of the information you share. I'm new to gardening and have never grown microgreens. Now I will give it a try. Loved the spice shaker idea!
Awesome
Bless your heart ❤️
Good idea
Why using the jar method, the seeds need to be bleached and using the tray does not.
Hello is micro greens seeds special seeds or every seeds can work?
Wish I discovered this channel earlier. Love watching this lady's content.
Great way to get your dose of toxic dioxin from bleached paper towels.
the roots on the ones that were placed on the paper towel are exposed. it is designed to be planted to another medium when the seeds germinated. So it is natural that they will not grow healthy.
Súper. Gracias
Waw ,truly thank you .Now my passion for eating home grown and green just grew more.
Use unbleached paper towels.
Dioxin is a byproduct of bleaching.
Dioxin is a cumulative toxin.
Also, paper towels vs. coco coir or jute might be a better experiment.
Has anyone dried out the soil mat, turned it over, and tried to use it again. And again. And…
Did u take the height of the soil into consideration ? I’d rather have paper towel honestly cuz they’re clean and don’t have to wash them as much as ones with soil .
Most miracle grow soils contain fertilizers ?
Hi. Great video! Thank you! Can I reuse the soil for another seeds? TIA
Was the soil fertilized compared to plain water? If so, this experiment needs to be done again with some nutrients in the water.
Helpful information, thank you for sharing !
I would have like for you to have done a 3rd try with coconut core. Very good and interesting experiment. Thanks
I’m wondering if the difference could simply be depth? An inch of soil has more room for roots to establish than 3 layers of paper towel. Maybe a few paper towels elevated on a cooling rack would allow roots to go further and plants be larger like in soil.
Lovely video on topic for me as I'm just starting to do this. Thank you so much.
I love how you experiment with different growing techniques
