VIDEO: Quail Mouse Trap? Well, Sort of! Birds defend Home from Mice Invasion!

This is one of the weirdest “mouse traps” I have ever witnessed! These mice got into our quail pen and it was a big mistake for them because the birds defended their home with devastating consequences as you’ll see in the video!

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. Hey, train your dogs to kill the rats, trained dogs kill hundreds of rats, there's also a video on that, where the farm fields get super cleaned with dogs. The rats live in the ground, inside. and the ground is being turned with dogs running after the rats and killing them right away. Hundreds in a couple of hours.I think it is the most efficient way to keep the farm clean. You cant fill all the holes.

  2. Interesting. Especially how they brought the bodies by the door all together. Like they were making sure the big man saw it and took them away

  3. Field & hill dwelling mice can tunnel underground. My late husband was a certified, licensed exterminator. His expertise….mice, rodents, etc. We burned a hill down, in a control burn, and you could hear the mice screaming, in their dens, as they burned. Got rid of a huge problem in our neighborhood. We had an acre, that they were living in. We did it to "brush clear" and make it safer for our chickens, as snakes go underground too.

  4. Attack of the Killer Quails! Seems like they are quite protective of their nests and eggs and will put up a fight. And they clean up afterwards, dragging the victims as far away from the breeding ground as possible.

  5. A friend of mine has chickens on their property near Bombala NSW, the chickens have taken out black snake on several occasions with no harm to themselves.
It's also interesting when Goannas comes around (not near the chicken coop), all the wild birds (different species) join together and drive them away.
