It has always been my dream to create a new apple variety! How cool would it be to grow a fruit which you can name whatever you wish and that it is it’s own unique variety? The best time to plant an apple tree was 7 years ago, so I musn’t continue umming and arrring about the project and just go for it! I really want you to join in, no matter how much or how little space you have. It would be incredible to have a whole new range of apple varieties by the end of the project. I want to thanks Erica, Tony and Liz for being a part of this project, and if you haven’t yet then you definitely need to subscribe to them:

This is such a fabulous community collaboration and I'm so glad to be a part of it! I can't wait to see how many new apple varieties this idea will create and hopefully I will get to taste some too!
Hey Huw, Roo has done her video on this – she does say you asked us to take part …sorry! she couldn't do another take (kids!) Looking forward to part 2
Wonderful project!
I have 7 that I cold stratified Dec. 11th and are now sprouted four of the are about 4” tall now and the other three are moving a bit slower, but are sprouting as well! Good luck everyone!
Fruit trees take up to 15 years to produce flowers and fruits.
would you like some apple seeds from the germplasm repository at Cornell University here in the States , they started them from stock from Kazakhstan and that region
Hello. What a great video! When are you starting to sow the seeds? I was waiting for that video. Thanks and happy gardening! Greets.
Hej!
I've actually got two ecological Pink Lady plants going. It's unclear though what variety daddy is. I have two other apple trees and many of my neighbours have apple trees. So I do plan to sow a few more over the years.
Regards, Alex
i'm a new subscriber. I love propagating plants and so recently decided to try my hand at planting seeds from the crab apple Evereste we planted last year. As we took the seeds from the fallers on the ground i didn't go through the stratification process. I soaked them water and left them to dry overnight before planting them in a pot. i planted 6 altogether plus one or two I took in my excitement from the Braeburn apple I was eating (forgetting to refrigerate it first). So far I have 3 of them doing well and 2 just coming up. I planted 2 of them on a couple of days ago and can't wait to see how they all do. As we have a very small garden and have recently planted a fan apple (James Grieve) don't have room for more in the long term. probably keep one and give the others away. It was great watching your video. Will continue to follow and see how you are all progressing.
hlw sir i am ishan from india how may i contact with i have also apple plants i am interested to know everything about apple my wts app no 9805773293
I have a few old varieties on our farm that I am trying to graft. I also watched a couple of videos on rooting from cuttings. I am trying both. These apples taste delicious but some are very old and falling down and I would like to save them.
I am excited to see an update video!! 🙂
Great! I planted 6 seeds. I had the apples in the fridge before I started, so I skipped the first part and they all came up. I’m no expert. They may not make it, but I’ll try! Wanted to do it since I was a kid and never did it.
Once my apples get to the right size, so going to have to try this.
How is it going? I been doing this for 4 years now and have I my know Apple variety, from when I was a teenager and planted some seeds.
What a great collaboration project Huw. I watched this video today and I'd love to join in even after you started a couple of years ago.
I actually have seven seedlings growing in my garden which I propagated from apple seeds at the beginning of lockdown in March 2020.
I would love to see an update video even if growth is minimal.
What fun!
I want to make my new apple variety help me
I understand what you mean,
Really cool! I’m in!
Another one just for views…..were are the follow up videos
Seedling apple trees are generally very vigorous, tough and can grow several meters per year when direct sown. I graft my favorite varietys onto seedlings leaving an original seedling branch to grow as well. In this way you can get good fruit in a few years while you wait to taste your new variety. Have fun and experiment!
Eagerly awaiting Episode 2.
Planted seeds from pink lady variety
Thinking about doing this with gooseberry. But controlled pollination
I wonder if apples are grown the same way in the UK as the US. Over here grocery store apples from commercial orchards are commonly pollinized by crab apples. This means that apples grown from these seeds will most likely be very small.
