Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
Nice video, thanks ☺️
Why do people say kale doesn't taste that bad? Wouldn't be my first choice.
I’m pretty sure I have those walking Egyptian onions in my garden. They’ve been going strong for a year and a half. I love not having to buy green onions ! I just pick some and they’re back the next day it seems
Thank you very much from Morocco
Love your Trellis sir,,
Love your vids
Love your explanations. Easy to understand. But utterly envious, I am living in Japan and you new single raised bed is as big as my entire garden!
and eggplant , the small ones
Love your videos!
Egyptian spinach = ملوخية
This was such a helpful video! I'm just about to sow my first spring crop and this will definitely change what I sow. Thanks Mark.
Show us how you cook them
I am trying Chinese spinach for the hot summer. I seem to lose my perpetual spinach too soon, and wonder if you have any tips? Wow, did it weather the unusual freeze we had in Texas earlier this year, though. Another one I'm trying is the roselle hibiscus for its leaves. They taste like sorrel–still experimenting.
Hallo do u hear me now?Say have you ever tried okra???
pickled okra is good.tried, boiled.
Thanks so much for your channel! I always enjoy your humorously presented information, & the humor (& the cool Australian accent) help the bits stick in my head better! I've just realized- from your video- that there's sweet potato vines running all over my yard! Great to never fear going hungry! Thanks again from USA!
Hail to Kail so cute, LOL thank you so much, Mike, it's super to watch you, so much fun, can't stop listening to you, getting hidings at home, jees mom are you on Self Sufficient Me again. LOL utmost is grateful for your insight. God Bless you and your family health, strength and utmost prosperity
Do you think Egyptian Walking Onion will grow in southern Philippines? We are always around 30 Celsius here. To get it, I would have to pay a lot of shipping so I wanted to make sure it will really grow here….
Looking at the area, I don’t think that you would get a cold winter. Brisbane gets two weeks of winter in July.
I live in Alice Springs and found this video super helpful. I have also found Warrigal greens, Brazilian and Malabar spinach do very well all year round and the grasshoppers don’t munch on them either.
One I’d add is hot peppers ( / chilis)
The Steve Irwin of vegetables.
Is it all corn GMO now?
Thank you so much for this lovely video.
