VIDEO: Planting Dahlias – Tubers and other flower bulbs on the plot #gardeninguk

With the sap rising in me and the excitement of spring only a gnat’s whisker away I’ve decided to plant some bulbs ready for a punch of vibrant colour on the plot in the summer on Allotment Grow How.
Dahlia’s and Gladiolus bulbs/tubers have a starring role in this video as well as a few others.

  1. It will be interesting to see if your dahlias grow. I'm in Southampton and pot my dahlias in 3 litre pots with the stalk visible and put in an unheated plastic greenhouse until they sprout and then plant them out in May after the last frost. Got carried away and potted up 54 as got some in wilko for ยฃ1.50. Anyway, will watch with interest. Thanks again for the great video

  2. Anderson shelters I think they were called, great to see them still being used for a good purpose. In the greenhouse
: Leeks, red and brown onions, savoy cabbage, toy choy small bok choy, parsley flat and curly leef, beetroot tall top, white beetroot (Avalanche), assorted lettuce. Weather here can not make up its mind, cold, rain, snow wind, raised beds are soggy wet.
Your plot is looking good, good luck with the Rabbits, here its Raccoons.
Looking forward to your next video.

  3. American Werewolf in London. Got a good tale about the film. Remember the scene when the down and outs were sat round a fire? Looking towards Tower Bridge I was project managing a building in `St Katherines. Got a phone call from the M.D. who had seen the film the night before to tell me someone had left the lights on in the office. Good video Adam nothing wrong in growing a few flowers Take care Mike

  4. Cheers Adam. I'm glad you're getting into flowers. Although when you said "I'll get everything out and show you what I've got", I did have to pause and take a deep breath for a second or two.
Good luck with the 2019 season.

  5. American werewolf in London ๐Ÿ˜‰ Its a pleasant walk to the plot. We got some of the storm but no damage for me. You have gone full flower power this year eh ๐Ÿ˜‰ Lo you can eat them all but you might die… Thats what my wife said to me when I said if you cant eat it I am not growing it lol. I think that bed will look spectacular when it comes into bloom. My daffs are just out of the dirt and the tulips too. Split the shallots and re plant as singles they might split again or at worst just bulk up. I remember the air raid shelter in my grandmothers garden was used as a shed ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Adam, I don't think you are getting soft, I think perhaps your dad has rubbed off a bit on you. And, helping the pollinators ranks high up there as well. Can't wait to see the color they will bring the plot. Have a great weekend. Catherine

  7. 'werewolf in london' (love me some werewolf action lol). i still have bulbs hiding somewhere that i have to plant up lol. looking forward to seeing them all pop up ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I like your videos! I know just hat you mean about going potty over the flowers for sale, we just bought gladiolus which I haven't grown since my first garden almost thirty years ago!

  9. Adam -I know what you mean. When I first started gardening it was going to be vegetables only. Now like you I have 250 pansies in flower in my front garden. However thank you to these you tube channels as I have just put in two new raised beds in the back garden which are Veg only. Thank you for setting me straight. -Cheers
