BOOK LAUNCH SPECIAL! To kick off my book launch ( grab a copy here: https://amzn.to/2BDJiQz ) I thought I would make a video about how to create and fill a raised bed from scratch. A raised bed is a fantastic space to grow food and gives you a lot more freedom with what you can grow in comparison to containers.
Measurements:
7.5cm = 3inches
15cm = 6inches
30cm = 1ft
4ft = 1.2m
6ft = 1.8m
10ft = 3m

I can't believe my book is now out!! Make sure to join in for my first every livechat this Sunday @3pm UK time – I would love to see you there!
More helpful from others vedios I liked it. Thanks
I've got quite a bit of leftover soil from a 'sfg' raised bed about two years ago. So it's pretty much vermiculite, compost and peat moss. Would that be suitable to go in this raised bed or should I start from scratch?
Great information !!! The place I need to put my bed currently has an invasive plant on it. If I cut the plant down and dig out most of it, will that be enough to keep it under control? I think it is a mertensia????
Thank you!
Love the plastic decking boards, great idea, such a shame they cost a fortune 🙁
I really appreciate how youre helping begginers like me 🙂 i have a question regarding the amount of bean harvest in the 4 by 10 feet area which you recommened, about how many kilos would one harvest? (For example if we planted white gigantes beans or mung beans.) When planting, how can we calculate the resulting harvest to know how much planting space we would need? Thank you 🙂
Hi, l have 2 questions for you: Where did you buy these boards? And my second question is: How much did everything cost you thanks?
Thanks for all your amazing information! I live in America and enjoy learning from you. Elise
It was going well untill i clicked on the recycled plastic link one bed equals £450 silly money
now the rainy season, the perfect time to start growing vegetables for the family. I started by making plant beds using wood
Hi everyone,
I love Huw’s stuff so please don’t get me wrong. I’m writing this here out of sheer frustration. I ordered his book on Kindle and it is just a complete mess. The screen shows about ten pages in microscopic print. I have never had a problem with the 50 0r so Kindle books I ordered before and these days getting any help and support from Amazon is just about impossible. This is a big financial loss for me so I wonder if anyone else has any ideas?
Keep on rockin’ Huw.
I really like it. Also check out Stodoys and plans.
Hi Huw, those raised beds can they be built in a polytunnel? Also the bark around the outside would that create too much moisture in the polytunnel? And congratulations on the book ♥
Nice learned how to make bed – was quite scared on how to do it. Thanks.
Hold on.. each bed would cost 200-300 pounds?!! Who’s got that amount of money On an allotment..?!!
Raised bed have 4 sides, which side should be facing south?
Jeebus the price of those plastic raised beds or planks. Out of range for most of us!
Drill all the holes first, then do all the screws. No swapping, and you only need one power tool!
Great helpful vid. Will definitely check out your book. Congratulations
Brilliant. Can I grow most vegetables in these raised beds on top of concrete slabs inside a polytunnel?
Cheers
Are the raised beds made from recycled plastic? and where can you purchase them?
Great video. The book is awesome and has made me want to get into growing veg. Thanks!
I built a double high cinder block garden bed over concrete, its just perfect
Why are (what are essentially) a couple of planks of plastic/wood and screws so darn expensive? :-p I just can't bring myself to pay £465 for a raised bed.
Clearly nothing to do with this great channel though!
£866 for a 12 x 3 foot bed from recycled plastic …..you must be joking!!!
Hi Huw (or anyone experienced).
Just topsoil and compost? No "lasagna"?
