Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. HEADS UP GUYS. I have low cost sources for North America. Contact your local 'window well' manufacturer. Most cities have at least one. Tell them your desired rectangular dimensions and they can make it. They look just like Mark's favorite beds. For comparison, I just ordered some at 6 feet x 3 feet x 30 inches high. My per unit cost is only $150 and they are super strong. Added plus: no shipping charges.

  2. My wife is ok with me buying a few! Cant wait! All my stuff is in the ground right now. I have a small tractor and tiller. But these would be great getting garlic and onions in really early since I dont till the ground in time

  3. Was about to buy some tall round beds and the website says they cant ship to my address in Montana, USA.
Too bad because they look nice guess i will build more cedar raised beds. Thanks for video.

  4. Mark mentioned planting blueberries. I know they need acidic soil. I have heard that acidic vegetables shouldn't be planted in galvanized garden containers. Would you explain this issue please.

  5. I'm about a year behind, apparently. I just pre-ordered two of these beds because of your other video about them. I didn't know about the code for the discount when I placed the order. I just mention it here in case they're using that code to track how many customers come from your videos. I'm one that didn't get counted 🙂

  6. Thanks for doing the video and sharing a discount code, Mark. Just ordered my first several new Birdie's garden beds today. Been building our own raised beds out of 2x lumber, lining them with rubber pond liners to try and reduce rotting out, which has helped marginally, but they still don't last very long. These corrugated metal beds should be just the thing for a long-lasting raised garden bed. If you have any slick ideas or info on what you use to add row covers to these type of beds, please feel free to share those as well. We typically use fabric row covers over our veggies that don't require pollination, or are self-pollinated to help keep the pests at bay. Mostly birds, but also some small mammals and insects are the issues we face here in Arizona. We also have wild pigs called Javelina that love to eat up anything we grow, even cactus! But so far they have not been able to get up into our raised beds as long as they are at least 2 feet above ground level. These 30-inch Birdies beds should be just the thing. Thanks again, mate!

  7. I would be happy to support the Epic Garden raised bed movement. Unfortunately, my income will not support my garden needs, well garden wants.
    Best wishes to your business.

  8. Just placed my order with Epic Gardening for two large Birdie beds, Thanks Mark for introducing me to these, and I look forward to starting my beds.
