I was wondering if tomatoes can be planted on home Depot 5 gallons plastic buckets..do to the fact that I am renting the house I live in and Don't want to make holes in the property.. can someone please answer that.. first time planting Dallas Texas here
Thank you
Thank you! Hardboiled or raw egg? I've seen both recommendations elsewhere. And do you think the egg would attrack bears? Thanks!
Obviously the egg is for calcium a common micronutrient that planters tend to forget
I love watching your video's great tips. I see you used brown eggs when planting tomatoes, will white ones work also? (HEE HEE}
I'm a beginner and just planted some tomato plants. I did not pinch of the leaves or plant them as deep as she did. Her instructions make perfect sense. I wondering if I should take them out and start over, or not disturb them.
Hello. I just planted some tomatoes. Now I’ve just seen this video. I didn’t know or do any of this.
Would I do more harm than good by digging them up, and planting them this way?
Thanks for sharing. I am going to try your method.
I absolutely love the tips I get here. I learn so much. Just a side note for those of us who don't have a fence in the North, Raccoons love eggs. They came and dug up all of my tomatoes when I used eggs to fertilize. I have been able to save many of them. Just part of the journey, but thought i'd share. Thank you, Jess for giving such helpful information for us new gardeners. I have gotten so many tips that helped me have success in my new garden last year.
Have you tried just eggshells? I make EGGSHELL SOUP with eggshells and water in my vitamix. I have amazing tomatoes!
I’ve also planted my tomato plants horizontally for years. It’s fabulous!!! I didn’t know the trick to curve the top prior to planting! Thank you!!
Wow.. great video and very helpful! thank you!
I wonder if it's just the calcium in the shell lol I'll have to try it
Tomato leaves are edible. They are good in soups or pasta dishes. I dehydrate their leaves for teas, as well.
If you put an egg in the hole coons will rip your plants out of the ground.
Put Epsoms salt around your plants and they get as tall as the trees.
I'm a first time gardener, and this year, I have my first raised bed garden. I started all of my plants from seed, and my little tomato seedlings were really struggling. I thought this summer would be a failure, but then I remembered this video. I dug up my tomato plants, made the hole deeper, put the egg in, cracked it, and planted the entire stem of the plants. WOW!!! I started noticing a difference within a week. Now they are growing so fast, and strong. I wish I had thought to take pictures each day to document the improvement. It was amazing! I'll never plant without the egg again. Thank you for all the videos you share with us. Your videos, especially your devotionals, have helped me through some pretty rough times.
instructions unclear, planted tomato upside down.
trichomes aren't roots >.>
I think its better to put your tomato plants deeper (vertical) then wider (horizontal) because you want a deeper root system not all on top. They will dry out faster if roots are near the surface.
You can also put a fish in the hole
Tomatoes don't need the entire egg. It is the calcium in the shell that they love. I keep all my eggshells, crush them, then add them to the soil when I transplant.
Here from Chickanic. Subscribed. Looking for more from you. Jim
No point planting into subsoils.
Do everything she says but plant the same amount of stem in a 6” trench, half fill, then water with liquid manure and fill.in.
Bonus, you can drive your stakes later without damaging the plant.
I saw your video on secrets to add to your tomato plants when planting. I was wondering if you ever tried adding cuttlebone in the hole like you do your eggs when planting your tomatoes? Cuttlebone contains calcium phosphate, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, and other mineral salts plus they last a long time. I give them to my turtles and tortoises. I can't wait to try the egg in the hole trick. Love your informative videos. I have learned so much!
I love all of your tomato videos! I’m in South Florida and gearing up for tomato season now (starts in October here) so I will definitely be trying your planting and pruning tricks this year!
So I watched a vid from Gardening in Canada, this youtuber is a soil scientist and has a video on those hairs of tomato’s.
They are I quote xD : “in no way shape or form a root, at all, I’m sorry their not”. She says that those hairs are called trichomes 🙂 that help with protecting the plant from pests.
