I have all my roosters separated with their own hens. Running out of space. What do you do with your roosters. Mine fight if they are allowed to get together.
Nice video
Help I am getting 3 baby Silkies in mail what do I feed them. I need an expert help for happy baby chickies.
Harvey is a handsome dude. 🙂
I've got 12 hens, not counting my 2 month old pullets, and have had 3 broodies in the last week and a half. I have what I call a broody pen. I put them in with just dirt, food and water. A good 4 or 5 days seems to work on our farm. It's always been just my Buff Orpingtons and my Cochins. My Rhode Island Reds and Colombian Wyandottes have never gone broody on me.
Being that chickens are so often the gateway drug to homesteaders and livestock these vids on chickens are invaluable. Thank you, Miss Patara!!!
What breed lays those pretty blue eggs?
Can you replace the eggs with baby chicks? Will this shorten her broodiness?
MR PEACHES! Total fan girl of Mr Peaches, lol. Love the new chickens too.
Holy smoke your roses are beautiful! ! My broody is on day 13 first time I have left a girl, we will see how things go
I put MY broody hen in a raised wire bottom pen for three days . breaks them every time
Wow look at that view!
I'm coming from out of state for the GAHC …I'm a veteran (retired) is there a hotel that is affiliated or recommended?
your eventbrite link doesn't work
Thanks
Thanks, Patara! Timely advice for me. Went to let out my hens this morning, and had a resistant Red Star not wanting off a clutch of eggs for the second morning in a row. Since we are leaving on vacation around the approximate hatching time, I would not personally be on hand to manage the situation. Based on your advice, I think it is better to break my broody, even though managing a broody would add to my skill set. You helped make my decision easier. Wishing you great success with your conference. I hope all runs smoothly for you.
Thanks for the info.
I have to ask, what breed is the white rooster at the end of this video. He is pictured at 9:30m to 9:40m.
Your homestead is beaUtiful!
Have you ever had to break a broody duck … actually a Muscovy? Have been removing all eggs from her (eggs laid by our Ancona girls) for going on two weeks, but the Muscovy stays on the empty nest 90% of the day. She's a big grouch to the other ducks when she comes out for a quick food & potty break. I hate to put her in a dog crate, but it's looking like I'll have to do that. Advice?
Thank you for that information, Patera. You gave a lot of knowledge in such a short video! Thank you so much for sharing!
loved it! things are looking gorg there! <3 xoxo
Great video! Thank you and blessings to you and yours. I had 4 broody hens this year. One of last year's chicks when broody and now her momma is broody AGAIN! She was trying to hatch out the fake eggs LOL So, I took those out before she really got 'set.' So far, I've had 3 Bannies and one Sexlink go broody this year. The issue I have had was in all the eggs hatching. One momma had 6 eggs and only hatched out 3 before she left the nest letting the other 3 die. 🙁 Another hatched out 6 of 11 (None some of those died before hand. Guess that's why they say never to count your chickens before they hatch.)
Love your spirit, gal. Wish I lived closer, you are my kind of 'people.' But, I'll have to just remain, State neighbors as I'm way down in SW Arkansas. See ya on here though! Again. Blessings!
Great video ….
Got my first broodie yesterday. No fertile eggs here. Into the dog crate she went.
This information is just what I needed! We have two very broody hens we’ve been unable to break. Going to try to the elevated dog crate you suggested. Taking eggs didn’t work. Frozen water bottles under their breasts didn’t work. Both hens are sitting on two ceramic eggs in the same nesting box at present. I’m at my wit’s end. Thank you again!
